Wray’s offense opens season strong with win over Wilson’s Meat

The boys of Summer are back.

Despite a slight delay in their season both Big Valley and Mifflin County Youth baseball kicked off their season Friday night all over the County.

Highlighting the opening night was a double feature at Rec Park’s Frank Pupo Field.

In the opening game of the evening, Wrays Landscaping met up with Wilson’s Meat.

The Wray’s offense was very patient throughout posting a 14-3 opening day victory.

Picking up the win for Wray’s was Easton Ruble who went 3 2/3 innings, striking out six and allowing five hits and three runs.

Offensively, Lincoln Ruble, Trent Davis and Tristan Pent roped two hits apiece and combined for four RBIs.

Others picking up hits were Hunter Benfer, Truitt Davis Lucas Shawver.

Wilson’s got a strong performance at the plate by Landon Haigh who went 2-for-2 with two singles and a run scored.

Teammate Zane Gramley, also picked up a hit as well as Kyson Russler and Kole Strawser.

As the visiting team, Wray’s opened the game strong as they rallied for a 7-run first inning.

Wilson’s got two quick out before Wray’s would find some 2-out lightning.

With two out, Ruble kept the inning going with a simple walk.

Davis blasted a double to left centerfield, scoring Ruble.

Easton Lepley walked and both scored on a Wilson’s miscue on a Kyle Shirk at bat.

Shirk later scored on a stolen base at the plate.

Noah Wray walked as did Pent.

Shawver loaded the bases with a single into left.

Logan Baumgardner picked up an RBI walk.

Benfer followed with an RBI walk of his own.

Dylan Wray finished the scoring in the top of the first when he notched an RBI walk.

Wilson’s chopped into the lead in its part of the first.

Bo Benny walked as did Chase Hartung, setting the stage for Haigh.

Haigh stepped in and smashed a double to left field scoring both Benny and Hartung.

Going into the second, the Wray’s offense continued to roll as it posted five more runs in the inning to stretch the lead to 12-2.

Ruble led off the inning with a single but was forced out on a fielders choice by Davis.

With Davis on first base, Lepley walked again followed with a walk to Shirk to load the bases.

Wray walked in Davis, upping it to 8-2.

Pent picked up 2RBIs when he smoked a long single, expanding it to 10-2.

Wray’s added two more runs on an error, finishing the inning holding a 12-2 advantage.

In the third and fourth Wray’s added to more runs to hold a 14-2 advantage.

However, Wilson’s would not go away with out a fight as they added a run to fall 14-3.

Haigh smashed a comebacker back past the pitcher. He stole second and later scored to end the game scoring.
