Story submitted by MC Eagles Travel Baseball

On Saturday June 27 and Sunday June 28 the Mifflin County Eagles 10U baseball team hosted the Mifflin County Summer Bash Tournament at the Strodes Mills Sports Complex.

Friday night rain and an early Saturday morning shower delayed the start of the tournament for nearly four hours.  Mifflin County played the State College Railsplitters in their first Pool Play game in the afternoon. The team struggled after the morning delay only mustered up two hits in the game.  The Railsplitters on the other hand found all the gaps and holes in the Eagles defense eventually winning the game 10-0.

Mifflin County’s second Pool Play game was played on Sunday morning.  The Eagle bats were awake as they took an early lead, scoring 5 runs in the first inning.  Consistent pitching and timely hitting led to a quick victory.  They beat the Centre County Piranhas 12-1.

With a record of 1 – 1 in pool play, the Eagles were matched up against the Patriots from Red Land in a win or go home scenario.  The Mifflin County youngsters found themselves down 5 runs early.  This scrappy bunch did not hang their heads.  They fought and clawed their way back into the game taking a lead late in the 5th inning.  Superb pitching and great defense allowed the Eagles to pull out the 14-8 victory.  Congratulations to Bo Benny for hitting a homerun over the right-centerfield fence which fired up his teammates and led the comeback charge.

The victory put the locals in the Championship game with a rematch against the State College Railsplitters.  Their first at bats of the game did not disappoint; timely hitting and heads up base running put the Eagles up 5 – 0.  The Railsplitters however did not go away.  They battled back to pull within a couple runs.  The Mifflin County team seemed to hit a wall, this was their 3rd game of the day and they seemed to be tiring in the heat.  The coaching staff had a brief team discussion between innings and that was just what the doctor ordered.  The MC boys came out, worked their way around the bases, and got some much needed insurance runs.  State College had a late run but the MC Eagles held on for the 9-8 victory, securing the tournament title.

Members of the team include: Ezra Beamer, Parker Feltenberger, Noah Wolfkiel, Gatlin Kauffman, Bo Benny, Jaxon Strohecker, Jett Powell, Asher Hassinger, Liam Shaffer, Brayen Aurand, and Chase Krepps.  The team is coached by: Dustin Benny, Justin Kauffman, Nick Wolfkiel and Dustin Shaffer.

The team will travel to Hanover in mid-July to compete for another 10U tournament championship.
