Still perfect! Mifflin County drops Clarence in road victory

WINGATE – The streak continues…

Mifflin County traveled to Bald Eagle high school Thursday to take on Clarence in Independent League action.

A 5-run first inning set the stage for MC to take home a convincing 10-2 victory.

After topping previously undefeated Mount Union days earlier in nail biting fashion, there was no let down with MC posting nine hits in the contest.

Brando Souders picked up the victory going four innings allowing only one run on three hits while striking out three.

Brycen Dobson, Jaxson Pupo and Ethan Eichhorn all posted two hits on the night to lead their team to victory.

Dobson went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Pupo had a 2-for-4 performance with a run and an RBI.

Eichhorn also went 2-for-4 with 2RBIs and a run scored.

Taking the loss for Clarence was Wyatt Coakley.

In the top of the first, Colby Bodtorf got things started, walking to lead things off. He advanced on a stolen base.

Dobson blasted in Bodtorf as he cranked a double, opening the scoring.

After landing safe at second, Dobson advances to third on a wild pitch.

Pupo followed with a walk, setting the stage for Eichhorn.

Eichhorn smoked a 2RBI single, scoring both Pupo and Dobson.

Rylan Bailey kept things going when he singled to left, putting runners on the corners.

Evan Smith bounced into a fielder’s choice, scoring Eichhorn and moved Bailey to third.

Bailey rounded out the first inning scoring when he was brought in by Cole Knable’s fielders choice.

Mifflin County dent the team down in order in the bottom of the inning, keeping the momentum into the second.

In the second, Mifflin County added another run.

Bodtorf once again led off and this time he singled into left.

He then stole second and moved up to third on a wild pitch.

He later scored on an infield single by Pupo.

Souders and company cruises in the second, allowing just a hit from Clarence’s Noah Williamson.

Mifflin County added another run in the third when Cole Schlegel scored on a fielder’s choice by Cole Knable, making it a 7-0 advantage.

Things kept continuing to roll for the Mifflin County offense adding to their lead in third, picking up two more runs and insurance as it was now a 9-0 contest.

Clarence added two runs while Mifflin County added yet another run in the final stanza to post the 10-2 victory.

Gavin Busch came in to take care of Clarence in the fifth and pitched solidly.
