Mifflin County sweeps Bellefonte

BURNHAM – The Mifflin County swimmers are ready to take that next step in the groups history, if Thursday is any indication on the season.
Despite having some major down time, sick swimmers and the holidays to take away from its focused the Huskies’ swept the visiting Red Raiders at the Juniata Valley YMCA swimming complex.
The girls won decisively over Bellefonte 104-64 while the boys muscled out a close 89-72 victory.
“I am very proud. Second meet of the year and we won. Bellefonte has a smaller team this year than they did last year but it is still certainly a challenge as we are a small team too,” Mifflin County coach Gretchen Seyler said. “One of the steps in building the program is beating the smaller team that are the same size as us and then working our way up.”
The afternoon got started in a strong way for the Huskies.
In the Girls 200 Medley Relay, the Lady Huskies took first place. They were the team of Ali McCurdy, Hannah Bonson, Macy Becker, and Rachel Kohler with a time of 2:08.53. Mifflin County also clinched a 3rd place finish. The Team of Morgan Robinette, Grace Kauffman, Jackie Fultz, and Sophia Aurand finished with a time of 2:22.39.
Hannah Bonson clinched a district qualifier spot in the Girls 200-meter Freestyle with a 1st place- nod. Bonson finished with a time of 2:12.86.
Mifflin County swept the event as 2nd place winner Grace Kauffman tallied a time of 2:29.34 while 3rd place went to Jordyn Kile with a time of 2:30.85.
Morgan Robinette finished in the number two spot in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:42.17 while rounding out the top three was
3rd place winner Rachel Kohler with a time of 2:52.17.
In the 100-meter Butterfly,
1st place went to Becker with a time of 1:10.12, giving her her first individual win of the afternoon.
Kile finished third with a time of 1:26.05.
McCurdy finished second in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:05.89 and
50-meter freestyle District qualifying 2nd place finish with a time of 28.56.
3rd place- Sophia Aurand came in third for the “Purple and Black Attack” with a time of 31.83.
Girls 500 Free
In the 500-meter Freestyle 1st Bonson was at it again, capturing another first place finish with a time of 5:54.86.
Even in the relay races, Mifflin County continued to dominate. In the 200- meter Freestyle Relay the team of Grace Kauffman, Kile, Aurand, and Robinette took top honors with a time of 2:06.31.
Mifflin County grabbed the third place spot as well as Jackie Fultz, Sarita Pornkasem, Kaegan Matthews, and Hayley Fultz finished with a time of 2:17.53.
Girls 100 Backstroke
1st place- Macy Becker with a time of 1:11.30 (district qualifier)
Mifflin County also took the top and third spot in the 100-meter Breaststroke as Robinette took it with a time of 1:25.55 while teammate Rachel Kohler took third with a time of 1:32.14.
Finally, the girls ended the contest where they started with a top finish.
In the 400-meterFreestyle relay. First place went Becker, Kohler, Bosnon, and McCurdy with a time of 4:14.51.
A well deserved 3rd place finish went to the team of Jackie Fultz, Sophia Aurand, Kile, and Kaegan Matthews with a time of 4:51.09.
On the boys’ side, things started out close but their gap widened as the meet got into the late swimming programs.
In the 200 Medley Relay, the team finished in 2nd place.
Team of Alex Larson, Cade Pollock, Trystan Snyder, and Isaac Iron Cloud finished with a time of 2:03.49.
In 3rd place, Kevin Neavling, Bennett Andrews, Ethan Andrews, and Andrew Montgomery came out with a time of 2:10.54.
In the 200 Freestyle, Mifflin County notched a first place by Braden Kibe with a time of 2:07.16 while
3rd place went to Tyler Mitchell with a time of 2:28.83.
2nd place- Andrews also picked up a second with a time of 2:30.43 in the 200 IM.
In the 50 Freestyle the 1st place finish went to Iron Cloud with a time of 24.63.
Larson qualified for districts with a time of 1:07.04 in the 100 Butterfly, good enough for a second place finish. Teammate
Andrews also qualified in the event with a time of 1:12.02 as he tallied a third place spot.
Iron Cloud was back at it again in the 100 Freestyle solidifying a top with a time of 55.53 while Pollock rounded out the top three with a time of 1:04.39.
In the iron man event, the Boys 500 Freestyle, Mifflin County got strong performances from Kevin Neavling with a time of 5:53.45 and Braden Kibe with time of 5:54.08, finishing first and second respectively.

Andrews, Neavling, and Kibe finished in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:49.54.
Alex Larson and Tyler Mitchell finished second and third in the 100 backstroke with times of 1:07.10 and 1:20.23, respectively.
Pollock looked strong in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:26.09. The finish was good enough for a second place finish.
Rounding out the events in the afternoon was the boys’ 400-Freestyle Relay.
Second place team of Braden Kibe, Kevin Neavling Alex Larson, and Isaac Iron Cloud with prevailed with a time of 4:01.22.
Mifflin County also went home with a third place thanks to the efforts of the team of Bennett Andrews, Andrew Montgomery, Tyler Mitchell, and Trystan Snyder with a time of 4:42.39.
Mifflin County will be back in action Tuesday when it place host to state college.
