MC boys 4th quarter rally falls short

LEWISTOWN – The inside -outside duo of Justin Henry and Brennan Jackson proved to be too much for the Mifflin County boys basketball team early as Central Dauphin took a 40-15 halftime advantage.
But the Huskies came out in the second half and battled strong in the final stanza outscoring the Panthers 20-12 on five triples by Ryan Walker, one by Logan Peachey and one by Gabe Jones.
On defense, Mason Snyder blocked two shots and forced numerous turnovers in the Huskies comeback attempt.
However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit as Mifflin County fell 64-49 Friday night at the “Dawg Pound” at the Mifflin County high school.
Mifflin County was led by Walker. Walker, who scored 16 fourth quarter points, finished with a 20-point effort while Jones complimented the effort with a 12-point effort of his own.
Sharpshooting Panther guard Henry, who hit four triples in the first, finished with five treys and 15 points.
Center Jackson collected a double-double sporting 10 boards and 11 points for CD East.
Teammate Evan Chandler also finished with 11 points for the victorious Panthers.
“We knew with their athleticism and size we had to do some things defensively. A couple of their kids can shoot well and Henry came out and he Lit it up in the first quarter, leading us off to a slow start,” Mifflin County coach David Sheetz said. ” we weren’t matching them offensively. In the second half we did. We were a little more confident and made shots in the second half. That was something we weren’t doing in the first half. I’m very proud of how they hung in there. They kept making shots and I’m proud of how we played on the defensive end, Gabe Jones and Mason Snyder were just animals in there. I thought Logan Peachey did a good job rebounding and playing against the 6’9″ center. He did really, really well.”
Going into the final stanza, Mifflin County trailed 52-27.
However, it wouldn’t take the Huskies’ long before they came out firing.
Walker hit his first of four fourth quarter triples to start out the final stanza scoring, 52-30.
On the following possession, Eddie Rivers his a runner in the lane to expand the lead.
CD East picked up a Huskie miscue and got the ball to Terry Danner. Danner took it right in, upping the lead to 56-30.
Walker took to the 3-point line once again and hit nothing but net, leading a 14-1 scoring run.
In the run, Walker hit five more points and Peachey and Jones tacked on triples, cutting it to 57-44.
However, Jackson temporarily stole Mifflin County’s momentum hitting a inside bucket as he was fouled on the play. He swished the free throw, upping the score to 60-44.
The Huskies’ defense continued to shine as it supplied its offense with a 3-0 run, putting the game back to within 15.
The two teams would go down the stretch scoring three points apiece as the Panthers held onto the double-digit win despite Mifflin County outscoring them 20-12 in the final period.
In the first, the Panthers got the ball to Henry early and often as he scored on four triples en route to a 24-7 first quarter tally.
Things didn’t get much better in the second for Mifflin County as they were outscored once again, this time 16-8.
Going into the intermission, CD East led 40-15.
Both teams scored 12 each in the third quarter sending the game into the final period, 52-27.
In the JV contest, CD East came out victorious, winning a 51-43 decisions over Mifflin County.
