MC take a final leap before end of pool play

BELLEVILLE – The Mifflin County 15-year old Babe Ruth all-stars made quite a splash as it ended pool play in grand style, taking care of Franklin Township 14-3 in five innings Tuesday.
With the win, Mifflin County finished undefeated at 4-0 and is headed into the final four elimination round.
It’s not always how you start it’s how you finish was words to live by if you were a fan of the “Blue and White” as it fell behind early on 2-0.
On the mound, Mifflin County’s Holden Yocum got better with each strike he pitched and despite giving up two first inning runs, Yocum tightened his pitches and allowed his defense to make plays as well.
Yocum also had it going from the plate in as well, posting a a 2RBI single to put MC ahead for the first time at 4-2.
From there Mifflin County never looked back as they posted six runs in the fourth and 10 runs in the fifth and final inning of the night.
Coming into help Yocum pick up the win was Cam Shawver.
In this contest, Mifflin County were the visitors and despite getting runners in scoring position in its first at bats, Franklin Twp.’s defense held tough and refused to allow any runs.
In the bottom of the inning, Franklin Twp. Got on the board with two as they took advantage of some Mifflin County miscues.
After posting zeros in the second and third, Mifflin County came alive in the fourth.
Shawver got things started with an innocent walk. Two consecutive wild pitches later, Shawver was standing on third.
Catcher Jacob Krepps also walked.
Seth Benson put Mifflin County on the board as he roped a 2RBI single to left.
Rodney Henry walked, putting runners in scoring position for Yocum.
Yocum did not disappoint as he crushed a 2RBI single, ending the inning scoring with the score sitting at 4-2.
Yocum kept the Mifflin County momentum going into the bottom of the ending, striking out three Franklin Twp. batters and keeping the 4-2 advantage.
Mifflin County brought 14 players to the plate in the fifth inning, picking up seven hits and 10 runs in the process to put the pressure on Franklin Township.
After looking as if he was tiring, Mifflin County manager Bub Parker replaced Yocum on the mound with hurler Shawver.
After allowing one line run, Shawver and company shut things down in the inning to take the 10-run 14-3 game shortened victory.
The MC 15s will be back in action Wednesday at 5:30 as it battles 21st Ward in the elimination round.
