Bellefonte blanks Central Mountain 3-0

BELLEFONTE – Fresh of a third place finish in a weekend tournament, the Bellefonte girls volleyball team came out primed and ready to play Monday against Central Mountain.
After a close first game of 25-23, the Red Raiders used that momentum and got better as the night went on, sweeping the Wildcats 25-23, 25-15 and 25-21.
“We had a nice tournament this weekend we finished third in gold and we got our attitude back and have a very fighting spirit now. That gave the girls confidence in this match because we just saw them this weekend,” Bellefonte volleyball coach Megan Flick said. “It’s nice to see them get as the get their anxiety of the way and be able to play and dominate.”
In the first game, Central Mountain broke out to the early 6-2 advantage on service two points by Maegan Miller and Jennifer Skow.
The Wildcats would up their lead to 8-3 before Bellefonte would climb back into it.
Fortunes changed after that as the Red Raiders rallied back to tie the game at eight.
In that run, Bellefonte picked up four consecutive service points by Kaylee Dressler. The Red Raiders front lines shined in the run, not allowing the Wildcats to gain its composure.
Central Mountain went back on top with two consecutive points, one from a side out and the other from Madalyn Bashore.
Bellefonte trailed by two until 13-12.
Another run by the Wildcats put the visitors ahead once again but this time they would go up by three led by the two service points of Kelcie Buckwalter, making it a 15-12 advantage.
The Wildcats kept the momentum once again and then increased its lead to 18-13.
However, the deficit did not phase the Red Raiders as they marched back once again thanks to the serving of Dreese, who collected three more service points to pull Bellefonte to within two points at 20-18.
From there, the home fans got a real treat as the Lady Raiders outscored the Wildcats 7-3 the rest of the way to capture the cone-from-behind victory.
In the second game, the Red Raiders started fast and ended even faster as the team led from beginning to end, 25-15.
Having a strong showing from the service line was Phoebe Rowland who tallied six service points in the victory.
Central Mountain gave it the “Old College Try” in the final game as the Wildcats pushed Bellefonte to the limits before falling 25-21 to end match.
