Mifflin County escapes with a victory over EJ

Mifflin County 3, East Juniata 2

LEWISTOWN – East Juniata traveled to Mifflin County Wednesday afternoon to battle the Lady Huskies field hockey team.
After a back and forth first half that put both teams tied at one, it would take a strong second half for the Huskies in order to pull out the victory.
The Huskies did just that posting two second half goals, lifting them to a 3-2 victory.
In the opening period, the Tigers gave everything the Huskies could handle, even taking the early lead over the veteran Mifflin County team.
EJ scored in the first half at 23:43. Kyle Dowling posted the unassisted goal to go up 1-0.
After almost 10-minutes later, MC scored with 13:48 remaining on the clock.
Marcella Pupo tied the game as she blasted a shot to the back of the cage.

“The girls played well tonight. At the start of the game and the whole first half, they played aggressive and were able to score first. The beginning of the second half, we got caught on our heels and were not going to the ball as much, which allowed Mifflin County to take the lead, 3-1,” said East Juniata coach Harley Straub. “With about 10-15 minutes left in the game, the girls picked up the momentum again and played like they were at the start of the game and were able to score with one second left to make it a one goal game.”
In the 2nd half, Mifflin County got goals from Kortlin yetter at the 24:47 and then Halle Kerstetter scored minutes later at 22:12 thanks to an assist by Alyssa Lynch.
Mifflin County Goalie Selena Breneman had 4 saves. Amber Schifano and Maggie Solomon both had a defensive save.
MC plays at Mifflinburg on September 28th.
Despite the game clock winding down, Emily Knepp roped a goal with one second left, cutting the game to a 3-2 Mifflin County win.
With the win, Mifflin County improved to 8-3.
