LEWISTOWN – For the Holidaysburg girls soccer team Thursday, the Sky was the limit.
Mandy Sky that is.
Sky was a main cog in the scoring machine as she threw of the Tigers goals in their 4-0 shut out of the Mifflin County Huskies at the Mifflin County Middle School soccer complex.
“We’ve had a lot of success in the last couple games we played. We’ve played a lot of minutes in a short amount of time with the little numbers,” Mifflin County coach Jeremy Herwig said. “The heart and dedication is there but it was just Hollidaysburg was hungrier.”
The Tigers went right to the heart of the Huskies’ defense and was able to put two scores in within the first three minutes of the contest.
After taking the ball from Mifflin County, Hollidaysburg took the ball and got it to Sky at the 37:54 mark of the opening period and was able to send a shot past Mifflin County goalie Allyssa Schnell, giving the visitors the early and momentum.
Before the first goal soaked in, the Huskies were back on defense and watching Rita Kendzoria beat the defenders in transition and catch Schnell a little too far out of her goal, upping it to 2-0.
From there Mifflin County tried to tightened up the defense and Schnell did just that sending away numerous breakaway opportunities while keeping her team within striking distance.
However, coming down on a 2-on-1, Kendrozia took the ball straight down the field and then dished it off to Sky. Sky did not disappoint as she slid it past Schnell to make it a 3-0 game with over 20-minutes left until the intermission.
But from there, Schnell put the goal on lockdown for the rest of the half and she continued to settle in as the game went on.
“We’ve been working on her being more active. She’s stepping up to the occasion for the most part,” Herwig said. “But the over the head goals they are tough. She has a tough time judging and understandingly so. But coming out and being tough there is no concerns there.”
With the strong effort, Schnell picked up eight saves.
At the half, the Tigers outshot Mifflin County 14-4 but Mifflin County had the leads in corners by a 2-1 mark.
Coming out of the second half, the Lady Huskies went right into the Tigers end and controlled the tempo for much of the final 40 minutes. They out shot Hollidaysburg 7-5 in the period but still couldn’t get a shot past the Tigers goalie.
At 20:50 left to play in the contest, Hollidaysburg picked up an insurance goal when Sky got the ball and collected her third goal of the night en route to the shut out victory.
