Weekend update: Bellefonte tops Central

Moving on.
The Bellefonte football team showed what a total team effort could do as it mixed a relentless, strong hearted running attack with a strong offensive line play and mix a spirited defensive effort along with an opportunistic special teams unit, you come out with a victory.
The victory Friday was not against just any team, it was a road win against one of the toughest District 6 teams in Central.
Bellefonte not only won the contest 49-22 but secured themselves a playoff spot and it gave itself a chance to control its own destiny for hosting a home field contest.
Dylan Deitrich delivered another strong performance while rushing for 267 yards and throwing for well over 100 yards.
He also showed up four times in the final stats scoring or by throwing a TD pass in the victory.
It took until midway through the opening quarter for the Red Raiders to score but when they did, the points kept coming.
Dietrich opened up the scoring with a 50-yard run from around the end. With the Chris Persiko PAT, Bellefonte led 7-0.
In the second quarter, Deitrich called his own number once again getting to showcase his speed, blazing his way down field on an 86-yard blast up the middle, making it 14-0.
However, on the next play from scrimmage, Central cut into the Bellefonte lead when Tristen Detwiler scorch the field on a 76-yard run, cutting it to 14-7 with 9:22 left in the first half.
With only a minute left, the Dragons tied the game at 14 when Jared Smith capped off a long Central drive with a one-yard run.
But the Red Raiders weren’t done yet with the first half.
With time running out until the intermission, Deitrich found his reciever Cade Fortney on a 19-yard TD pass, giving them the 21-14 advantage at the intermission.
Bellefonte received the ball to open the second half and made the most of it. The Red Raiders offensive line continued to blow the defenders off the line and capped the drive on a CJ Funk 3-yard touchdown run, making it 28-14 with 9:00 minutes left in the third.
On the ensuing kick, Detwiler got the ball and battled his way to a 76-yard kick off return for a touchdown. Central went for two and were successful as they cut it to 28-22.
That would be all that the Bellefonte offense would need as Deitrich would throw for a touchdown and Dexter Gallishaw would muscle his way in from 15 out.
The punting team also became a part of the action when Noah Badger recovered a fumble in the end zone on a punt to ice the game, 49-22.
This week, Bellefonte is back on the road, traveling to Chestnut Ridge.
