State College skaters ice Somerset

UNIVERSITY PARK – It was a frozen senior night delight at the Pegula Ice Hockey Arena when the State College Ice Hockey team honored senior players Bryant Schaefer Antanasio, Samuel Woytowhich and Michael Moscone before their Thursday night game against Somerset.
State College provided the heat on the ice as it cooley provided their seniors a special gift, defeating the Eagles 10-4.
The Little Lions outshot Somerset 26-17.
Defensively, the Lions only allowed one power play goal in the contest in three attempts.
At one point, State College faced a 2-man power play deficit and was still able to hold off the Somerset offense.
Early on, the game started off to be a shoot out.
Offensively, Moscone lit up the lamp with a 5-goal effort.
Just minutes into the game Moscone hit his first goal off of a Braden Wandrisco pass, making it 1-0.
With just over 9-minutes left in the period, Moscone blasted a mid-range slapshot that tickled the twine. Picking up the assist was Kaleb Barth, making it 2-0.
Midway through the first, the Eagles cut the lead to one on a power play advantage.
However, State College answered back just seconds later. Robert Zimmerman put the Home team by two again with 6:14 left in the opening period.
But Somerset wouldn’t go away without a fight and less than two minutes later they put the pressure back on State College with its second goal of the game.
Moscone quickly attended to that as he lit it up once again, on the following possession, extending things back to a 2-point contest.
From there, the Little Lions’ defense held the rest of the period.
Coming out of the first, the Eagles once again hit a goal to try to get back in striking distance, making it 4-3 at the 13:36 mark.
Have no fear, Moscone was here, as he once again foiled the comeback attempt with yet another goal less than thirty seconds later.
Once again, Somerset found a chink in the State College defense and cut the lead to only 5-4.
But that would be the last goal that Somerset would get as the defense would tighten which would leave the Little Lions to go on a 5-0 run to end the scoring.
Moscone put his team up once again to once again stretch the lead to two, 6-4.
Stephen Maher got into the scoring act, upping it to a 7-4 with 6:09 still left in the second.
Minutes later, Wandrisco got loose on a breakaway and sent it home, making it 8-4.
Picking up the last two goals for State were by Cameron McCurdy and Zimmerman. Both were still in the second.
After a high scoring first and second period, the Lions and Somerset both got strong defensive efforts as the game went to the final buzzer at 10-5.
