By Kenny Varner
LEWISTOWN – Onward and upward.
After a stellar career on the gridiron, Mifflin County football player Jacob Yoder signed his letter of intent to play for Bloomsburg University in the Huskies Media Room.
“We are extremely excited that Jake has decided to continue his academic and athletic careers here at Bloomsburg University.  He has great potential to become another outstanding Offensive Lineman in a long line of lineman who have established a tradition of excellence at B.U.  Welcome to Bloomsburg Jake!,” said Bloomsbury Head Coach Paul Darragh.
Yoder , who played offensive line for the Huskies, collected numerous honors such as mentioned as a 2017 Pennsylvania Football News Class 6A Honorable Mention, he was All-State in the 2017 First Team Mid-Penn Colonial Conference. His career also included the 2017 Western PA Football 6A First Team at the offensive line position.
In 2016 Yoder collected nods as Second Team Mid-Penn Colonial at offensive line.
“First I would like to thank the good lord above for giving me the opportunity to play the wonderful game of football,” Yoder said. “I want to thank my family and friends for without them I wouldn’t even be here.”
The senior recorded 40 tackles and one fumble recovery on defense as a senior.
“Jake is a testament to what you can achieve when you work hard to perfect your craft.  He is a tremendous athlete who will be very successful playing in the PSAC,” Mifflin County coach Scot Sechler said. “I’m excited for him to have the opportunity to play at the next level and continue his education at Bloom.”
Just as impressively he was an acedemic four-year honor roll student. Yoder was also a 3-year letter winner and a team captain in his senior year.
When making the decision to commit to play as a Huskie, Yoder made a long and hard decision before selecting.
“I had it down to Lock Haven and Bloomsburg and Friday night I sat down with my family and decided that Bloomsburg was not only the best fit for me but also for my family,” Yoder added.
Yoder will report to Bloomsburg in August to start the next level of his football career.
Yoder was ecstatic when he got the call announcing he was accepted.
“I felt like the whole world was lifted off my shoulders,” Yoder said. “ I couldn’t be any more happier. The smile on my face. I can’t wait to play another four or five years.”
Yoder will go into his freshman year undicided for a major but has a plan of action ready to go as soon as he gets there.
“I was hoping to take first semester Gen Ed. classes. Then in my second semester I will know better on what I am going to major in,” Yoder said.
Bloomsburg University plays in the
PSAC.
Cheyney University, East Stroudsburg University, Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, Millersville University, Shippensburg University and West Chester University are other members of the PSAC.
In 2017, the Huskies’ record was an overall 7-4 nod while the PSAC record for Bloomsburg was 4-3.
“From my point, I am ecstatic to see him play at the next level. I can’t wait to go over and watch the games,” Sechler said. “I know he is going to be successful because he has the work ethic and to do great things.”
