Bald Eagle blasts West Shamokin 8-3

By Kenny Varner
WINGATE – After ending the season in an upward swing and making an appearance in the District 6 Class AA playoffs, the Bald Eagle Area girls continue to roll on.
Monday night, the Lady Eagles pounded out 17 hits while plating eight runs.
Bald Eagle pitcher Madison Peters was sizzling from the mound, striking out 15. She allowed only one hit until the sixth inning.
Peters also helped her own cause at the plate as she sent a screaming shot over the centerfield for a 2-run home run.
Bald Eagle Area has numerous multiple hitters on the night. Picking up multiple hits were Lacee Barnhart and Mara Hockenberry both finished 3-for-4 RBI run, Mackenzie McClosky went 3-for-4.
Teammate Tobi Yarrison plated a 2-for-4 RBI effort as Madison Peters finished her night going 2-for-4 2RBI run.
Rounding things out for Bald Eagle was Mara Caldona who finished with a 2-For-3 RBI afternoon.
“All in all I loved the way we started off. I liked the way we came out and took charge,” Bald Eagle Area coach Don Lucas said. “Anytime you give your pitcher a two, three or four run lead it helps her (Peters). She had a heck of a game today.”
The bats came out early and often in the first inning as the Lady Eagles grinder out five hits en route to a four run inning.
Barnhart got the BEA offense going with an infield single.
Hockenberry followed with a single to right field.
Unfortunately for Bald Eagle, Barnhart was gunned down by picture perfect throw from the outfield.
But the hitting continued as McClosky moved Hockenberry up a spot on a third consecutive single.
Yarrison has the game’s first Big hit as she sent a booming shot out to centerfield, clearing both teammates off the base paths via a double. She was replaced by pinch runner Brian Bisel.
Peters continued the Lady Eagles momentum hustling out a Wolves miscue, putting runners on the corners.
On the play, Bisel made a break for home and it looked like she was set to be tagged by the catcher.
However, the catcher missed the tag and Peters took for third.
Thinking that Bisel was out, the catcher gunned the ball to third to try to get Peters but when the dust settled, both were safe and sound, making it 3-0.
With Peters at third, Lucas went for a courtesy runner, Makena Baney.
Baney would score the last run of the inning as she reached home on a fielders choice RBI by Mara Caldona, ending the inning at 4-0.
In the top of the second, Peters allowed just a lone hit, a chopper back the middle for a single.
But from there Peters shut everything down and gave her offense another chance to extend its lead.
With one out, Barnhart sent a shot down the left field line, putting her safe and sound on third.
Hockenberry followed in Barnhart’s footsteps sending a shot to right field, landing her on third with back-to-back triples.
When the game went into the third inning, the Home team had the fans charged up, leading 5-0.
Bald Eagle added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a 2-run round tripper by Peters.
When the teams went into the fifth, Bald Eagle held a comfortable 8-0 advantage.
Peters continued to send batters down at will, not allowing a another hit until the sixth inning.
But it wouldn’t be until the seventh til the Wolves would be able to put runs on the board.
However, it was too little too late as the Eagles live the fly another day as it hosts the next round of playoffs.
