Lady Trojans advance with 10-0 win over Colts

MOUNT UNION – It was de ja vu all over again.
Continuing where they left off in the regular season, the Mount Union Girls Softball team once again met up with Northern Cambria in the District 6 post season.
And much like last year, it would be the offense that took center stage for the Lady Trojans as they closed the Colts out in five, winning 10-0.
On the mound, Mount Union’s Sara Gearhart was once again keeping the opponent at bay, allowing only four hits in the shut out.
Offensively, Mount Union’s day was highlighted by a solo home run from McKenna Shields.
The Trojans picked up multiple hits from Taylor Fortney who went 2-for-3.
Northern Cambria got a 2-hit outing from Sydney Sheredy. Both of her’s came from singles.
Mount Union went right to work in the bottom of the first, plating three.
With two outs, Taylor Fortney got the Trojans going on a surprise bunt to keep the inning alive.
Kerrigan Woodward made the most of it as she blasted a triple, scoring Fortney.
Madison Harris kept things alive, picking up a walk. She hustled to second on ball four, putting both runners in scoring position.
Kaden Cresswell scores both a she smoked a 2RBI single into the outfield, making it 3-0.
Mount Union, who wound things up in less than an hour, showed strong defensive prowess throughout. They thwarted numerous scoring attempts by the Colts.
Before anyone knew that the bottom of second had started Shields blasted her home run over the fence, adding to the Mount Union lead.
Destinie Myers bunted her way on as well and later scored on a wild pitch.
Leadoff hitter Dieana Rohor hustled out a grounder and reached safely after a Colts miscue. She would also reach home on a wild pitch.
Fortney picked up her second hit off the young contest as she would later score to end the scoring in the inning at five.
When the dust settled and the third inning got underway, the Lady Trojans held an 8-0 advantage.
From there Gearhart and her defense took over as they seemed to get stronger as the game wore on.
Mount Union put the final touches on in the fourth inning, plating two more runs to give them a 10-0 lead.
Northern Cambria went out quietly in the top of the fifth, giving the Lady Trojans yet another post season victory.
