Bald Eagle miscues too much to overcome versus Bearcats

ALTOONA – Two familiar Mountain League foes met once again to battle for the District 6 3A title Wednesday night as Huntingdon went head-to-head against Bald Eagle Area at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
What started out promising for the Eagles turned into a Huntingdon runaway as the Bearcats went into beat the Eagles 11-1.
Jared Showalter picked up the win for the Bearcats while Hunter Brooks took the loss.
Showalter scattered two hits in the five and a half inning contest.
Offensively, Huntingdon’s night at the plate was highlighted by Home runs by Nick Holesa and by Showalter.
The Bald Eagles Achilles heel on the night was its miscues. On the night, the Eagles committed four errors.
Things started in Bald Eagles’ favor as it scored its only run in the top of the first.
Lead off hitter, Grant King reached First via a Bearcat error. He moved up to second on a wild pitch.
King moved to third on a fielders choice by Trent Donely.
He then scored on a sacrifice fly to right, making it 1-0.
Brooks sent down the side in the bottom of the inning, keeping the lead until the bottom of the second.
Things started to go south early in the second as the Bearcats rallied for six runs after getting two early outs.
With two out, Ben Briggs led off with a walk.
Landon Fisher reached on a single, scoring Briggs.
Jackson Ritchey would join Fisher on the base path, putting runners on the corners.
Rece Ritchey’s single to right scored both Fisher and Jackson Ritchey, upping it to 3-0.
After stealing second, Rece Ritchey marched home via a double by Nick Zanic.
Teammate Nick Holesa walked and stole second, putting runners on second and third.
Both scored on the Eagles’ second miscue of the inning, making it 6-1 after two.
Both teams settled back in in the third but the Bearcats’ offense were back at it in the fourth.
Zanic led of the inning reaching on an error and moved to third on a pick off move gone bad.
Holesa showed his strength minutes later as he slammed a shot that cleared the right field fence, upping it to 7-0.
After a single by Alex Mykut, the Huntingdon bats him around Home as well, ending the fourth inning with Huntingdon leading 9-1.
Showalter ended the game for his team in the bottom of the fifth as he sent a blast over the centerfield fence for the 2-run shot, ending the game with the 10-run rule and crowning them D6 champs.
