Complete NFHCA All-Region Teams

GILBERT, Ariz. – On Wednesday morning the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Longstreth announced their NCAA Division III All-Region Teams. Among the 197 student-athletes named All-Region were a trio of Falcons in the South Atlantic Region. Senior defender Shayna Landis and senior forward Kezia Loht were both named First Team while senior midfielder Megan Wetzel was honored on the Second Team.

The honor is the third of Landis’ career after she was named Second Team as a freshman in 2015 and First Team last season as a junior in 2017. The All-Region accolades for Loht and Wetzel are the first of their careers after strong senior campaigns.

As mentioned the honor is the second-straight and third overall for Shayna Landis after being named First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American last season. Landis led a defensive unit for Messiah that allowed just 14 goals in 21 contests, good for a 0.67 goals against average (the eighth-best mark in the country). Landis was the veteran leader on the back line for the Falcons. In her senior season, Landis started 20 matches and made a total of 88 starts in her four years in Grantham. In addition to her All-Region honor, Landis was named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season as well.

Joining Landis on the First Team was fellow senior Kezia Loht. The First Team All-Region honor is the first of Loht’s career and comes just a month after she was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the MAC Commonwealth. Loht registered eight goals on the season, tied for third-most on the team this season. In addition to her eight tallies, Loht handed out 13 assists, tied for 15th most in the country this season. With a quick first step, Loht was a pain for defenses to contain, creating quality scoring chances for the Falcons all season long.

Megan Wetzel capped off her career with the Falcons with her strongest campaign in her senior season. The senior midfielder led the Falcons offensively with 10 goals and 31 points on the season thanks, in large part, to her strong stroke off and quality decision making of penalty corners. This season the Falcons earned 243 penalty corners and the vast majority of those corners ran through Wetzel at the top of the circle. As a result of her strong senior year, Wetzel was named First Team All-MAC Commonwealth as well as Second Team All-Region, both for the firsts for the senior.

The Falcons completed the 2018 season just a few weeks ago with their fourth-straight trip to the Elite Eight. Messiah ended the season with an overall record of 20-1, marking the first time in program history that the Falcons have registered three-straight seasons with 20 or more wins
