Big Valley 12Us fall to explosive State College team

STATE COLLEGE – It wasn’t quite the way that the Big Valley 12U All-Stars were hoping it would start when they went up against State College.

From their first at bats, the State College bats were hitting the holes early and often while its defense did what it had to do en route to the 34-0 victory over Big Valley.

Picking up the win for State College was Gavin Kendrick while Big Valley’s Jack Porch took the loss.

Kendrick and teammate Sebastian Rhoades tossed a combined one-hitter.

Picking up Mifflin County’s lone hit was Na’ Zac Traxler who hustled our an infield hit.

State College finished the three- inning contest with 24 hits overall.

Lead off hitter Asher Cunningham finished with a 4-for-4 effort with five runs and 3 RBIs.

Rhoades went 4-for-6 with 2 RBIs and four runs scored. Kendrick also went 4-for-6 with 4 RBIs and four runs scored.

Clean up hitter Mike Gaul also finished with a 4-for-6 and was just a double shy of hitting for the cycle, hitting a 3-run home run, triple and a single. He finished with 4 RBIs and four runs scored.

Vin Powers finished with a 3-hit afternoon as did Vince Frazza-Schwartz.

Mike Powell rounded out the State College multiple hitters, finishing with two.

With the first at bats, State College wasted no time at all as it plated 13 runs.

Cunningham opened the game with a walk. He stole second and advanced to third on the overthrow of second.

Rhoades brought him in with an infield single, making it 1-0. He moved to second as Kendrick hit into a fielders choice.

With two outs, Powers blasted an RBI double.

Powell made it 3-0 as he roped an RBI single that scored Powers.

Frazza-Schwartz brought in Powell when he picked up a double of his own.

Teammates Nate Musser and Chris Warner both walked to load the bases for Cunningham. Cunningham roped a double to clear the bases.

Rhodes would bring in Cunningham in on an RBI single.

Kendrick’s single set the stage for Gaul. Gaul blasted a deep blast over the fence in center, making it 11-0.

Powers and Powell also scored in the inning, making it 13-0.

After shutting Big Valley down in the bottom of the inning, State added 11 more runs in the second and 10 in their final at bats to up its lead to 34-0.

Despite the loss, the Big Valley team lives to play for another day in the double elimination tournament.

Both teams will be back in action Thursday as Big Valley tries to bounce back from its loss as the play in the bottom bracket of play and State College hosts round two.
