Comeback kids; MC13s rally to top 21st Ward 8-6

MILROY -Two-for-Two!

Friday night the Mifflin County 13s went up against a spirited group from 21st Ward in the second day of 13-year old Babe Ruth state competition.

The visitors took the lead for most of the game.

But the “Boys in Blue” had a flare for the dramatic as they bounced back to defeat the 21st Ward 8-6.

Picking up the victory for Mifflin County was hurler Landon Eichhorn. He went four innings allowing one run, striking out six and only allowing three hits.

Taking the loss for the 21st Ward was Ryan McManis.

Tucker Gill gave his team some key hits, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Sparking the comeback attempt was Xavier Smith who roped a huge triple to left on a 2-for-3 night posting two runs scored and an RBI.

Teammate Ryan Kanagy also finished with multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Trailing 6-3 going into the fifth, Mifflin County started its March back into the contest scoring three in the fifth to tie the game at six.

With one out, Smith got the inning off and running with an triple to left field.

Eichhorn sent a sacrifice fly into centerfield, scoring Smith.

Kanagy walked.

Gill kept the inning going smooth as he hustled out an infield single to shortstop, Kanagy alertly advanced to third.

Mifflin County cut it to 6-5 when Kanagy scores on a wild pitch. Also on the play, Gill had moved up to second. He moved to third on a single by Hunter Bailey.

Pinch hitter, Cole Shutt singled in Gill to knot the game at six going into the sixth.

Eichhorn and company kept the 21st Ward in check in the sixth, setting the stage for some clutch sixth-inning Mifflin County hitting.

It would be Smith once again providing the spark as he singled into left field.

He moved up to second on a balk.

Kanagy put his team ahead as he blasted a shot into left center, scoring Smith on a triple.

Gill brought in Kanagy as he once again hustled out an infield single, making it an 8-6 contest.

That would be all that Mifflin County needed as it shut down the 21st Ward in the seventh to capture the victory.
