BELLEFONTE – Rivalry games bring out the best in both teams no matter what the sport.

Especially if the rivalry game is Bald Eagle versus Bellefonte.

Thursday, the two met on the volleyball court where the Eagles were playing to keep their undefeated streak alive as well as prep for another post season run and the Red Raiders were playing for pride and the ability to improve each game.

From beginning to end,  both teams achieved what they set out to do as the Eagles took the series in three games. The scores were 25-10, 25-13 and 25-22.

“They (Bellefonte) did well. They got better as the games went on. We didn’t have as many of our service errors as we’d had in the past,” said Bellefonte coach Teri Kerr. “They set a couple goals for themselves and they issued them. I thought they did well. It’s always disappointing when you lose but I have no problem with how they played.”

Bald Eagles’Madison Rockey has a huge night as she tallied 20 assists, three aces and four digs.

Lexi Skripek also shined for Bald Eagle with three aces and eight digs.

Rounding out the big individual performances was Lacee Barnhart who finished her night with two aces, four kills and 11 digs.

Saving the best for last, Bellefonte was able to keep battling through out, despite falling in the first two games. The hard work paid off as they pushed the Eagles’ reserves to the limit before falling, 25-22.

Bald Eagle Area started off sizzling notching the first four points of the game. Three of those came from Rockey at the service line.

After Bellefonte forced a side out, Bald Eagle went on another mini run on a side out of their own and two service points by Hugar, making it a 7-1 advantage.

Trailing 9-2, the Red Raiders picked up their two first service points of the game, coming from Chelsea Robson.

But back would cone the Eagles as they added up a sturdy 15-7 advantage.

With a side out and the ball, Bellefonte began its march to erase the 9-point deficit.

Bellefonte would battle back to make it a 15-10 contest as the Eagles weren’t able to return two service shots from server Tayla Miller.

Back battled the Eagles as they added two more points to put their team back up by five at 17-12.

They would make it a 20-12 lead.

Stepping to the line, Bellefonte’s Robson was an ace making machine as she plastered three aces in her first four serves.

Her first service point was helped via a block by Phoebe Rowland.

When the dust settled, Bellefonte was back in striking distance at 20-18.

They would be able to get as close as 22-21 before the Eagles would put the game away 25-22.

“We had the entire bench in in the third game. We had a handful of JVs in. We were pretty deep and I wasn’t going to sub them out. We had three underclassman to play off the lead and we had them out with the senior so it was a make-shift group but I was happy. We have work to do but we know that. But I thought we were fairly clean for most of the first and second games.”

In the first contest, the Eagles came out firing and took the contest 25-10.

In the second game, the Red Raiders got a little closer but the Eagles continued to soar in the game, winning 25-13.

Bald Eagle travels Monday to West Branch in the battle of undefeated while Bellefonte hosts Hollidaysburg Monday.
