Bald Eagle Volleyball remains unscathed; drops Tyrone

WINGATE – After a very successful start to the season where the Bald Eagle Area girls volleyball team has been very dominant in most of its game this year, Tuesday night the Bald Eagles continued its role of the dominant team in the Mountain League by defeating Tyrone in three sets 25-12, 25-16 and 25-23.

Grace Hugar and Elita Brown led the way in kills with eight while teammate Lacee Barnhart tallied seven.

Taylor Kilmer has two blocks while Lexi Skripek and Hugar led in digs with 14 and 11, respectively.

Maddison Rockey was the workhorse for the Bald Eagles placing up 33 assists.

Rockey, Skripek and Brynn Bisel rounded things out with three aces each.

“Tyrone’s a good team. They’re going to be one of the top teams in the league. I think them and Penns Valley. We’ve been lucky to player the higher echelon of teams to start,” Bald Eagle head coach Larry Campbell said. “I think they weren’t ready for our tempo early and I think we did a good job of playing within the system.”

The first game started out as a back and forth game with four consecutive side outs.

Tyrone got its first and only service point, coming on a point by Tyrone’s Brianna Foy, making it 3-2 in Tyrone’s favor.

However, that lead would be temporary as the Bald Eagles rebounded with a side out and service point by Hugar.

With the game tied at four, Bald Eagle built up its lead to 8-4 thanks to three consecutive service points by Skrepik. In the run, Taylor Kilmer found the middle wide open and Skrepik would capture an Ace.

It would be enough if a lead that the Home team would need as they kept a four-point advantage until giving the ball to Barnhart in the serving lane.

Barnhart extended the lead as she picked up three consecutive service points to increase their lead to 14-7.

Tyrone would close it to as close as 14-8 before Bald Eagle would outscore the Eagles 11-4 down the stretch, winning 25-12.

In the second game, we were a little sloppy. We had at least eight errors

and that was half their points,” Campbell said.

Bald Eagle fell behind 3-1 early in But was able to pull things together as the Eagles picked up two service points by Rockey, tying things at three and then taking the lead at 4-3.

After keeping the game close, Tyrone saw its fortunes take a turn for the worse when Hugar rolled off four service points, followed by teammate Skrepik who tallied three to put their team out ahead 13-6.

That would by all the lead they would need as they rolled to the 25-16 victory.

Tyrone refused to go away without a fight and gave the Eagles their best but it fell just short 25-23.

In the JV contest, the Bald Eagles were also successful, winning 25-9 and 25-10.

Bald Eagle will be back in action Thursday as it travels to Bellefonte.
