The Juniata Cross Country team competed at the PIAA Foundation Invitational in Hershey on Saturday, September 21, 2019.  The boy’s team competed in the Blue (AA) race.  Garrett Baublitz lead the Indians and won the overall with a time of 16:36.  Next for the Indians was Clay Yeager who finished 33rd with a time of 18:06.  Rounding out the varsity team were:
James Hazard – 128th – 20:36
Will Tyson – 138th – 20:50
Micah Fausey – 140th – 20:53
Brody Powell – 141st – 20:55
Isaak Fausey – 146st – 21:10
Coach Miller said “The boys ran well considering the temperature was over 80 degrees at race time”.  Garrett pulled away shortly after the mile to run solo the rest of the way.  Coach Miller said “Clay Yeager ran a good solid race in the heat.  He was the most improved from last year in conditions that were much warmer.”  Micah Fausey also improved his time from last year.  Juniata finished 15th out of 29 teams.  There were 208 runners in the Blue (AA) race.
In the JV boy’s race, Tim Kelly lead the Indians finishing 252nd with a time of 23:30.  He was followed by Noah Sheaffer in 262nd – 24:02 and Kaleb Louder 328th – 33:10.  Noah Sheaffer also ran well in the heat today Coach Miller said.  There were 333 runners in the JV race.
The Juniata girls competed in the Blue (AA) race.  They were not able to score as a team because they didn’t have the 5 runners needed to score.  Emily Houtz lead the Indians finishing 81st with a time of 23:30.  She was followed by Julia Burns – 184th – 32:44 and Katie Hart – 185th – 33:38.  There were 186 runners in the varsity Blue (AA) race.  For most of the girls this was their first time running on this difficult State Championship cross country course.  Miller was pleased with the way they ran despite the heat.
Juniata will compete at Carlisle Invitational on Saturday, September 28.
