Bellefonte Lady Raiders tripped up by Central

BELLEFONTE – Every night in the Mountain League softball circus is a tough one.

Thursday afternoon, the Bellefonte Raiders went head-to-head against a dangerous Central team.

Central came out swinging and carried a hot bat, posting a 13-3 six-inning victory over the Raiders.

Picking up the victory on the night was Dylan Claycomb.

Claycomb held the Bellefonte bats to only three runs on four hits.

Taking the loss was Lexi Rogers.

Leading the offensive explosion for the Dragons were Maddie Metzler (4-for-5 RBI 3 runs), Dylan Claycomb (2-for-4 3RBI, run), Cam Feathers (2-for-3, 3 runs), Tori Longenecker (4-for-4 RBI, run), Alana Padula (2-for-3 2RBI, run).

The Red Raiders got hits from Rogers (double), Lissi Prsybys, Makenna Port and Emily Pugh.

“Central is super aggressive. They don’t take pitches. They come after you. I don’t know if we had a mental let down after yesterday (win over Philipsburg-Osceola) orcwhat happend,” Bellefonte Coach Travis Foster said. “We talked and tried to get through that. We have them six early and it’s hard to come back from that.”

The Dragons came out in the first inning and picked up consecutive doubles by Ashley Negley and Maddie Metzler.

With one out, Cam Feathers walked and then joined them on base on a single to left.

Shannon Detwiler was hit by an Rogers’ offering, plating Metzler, upping it to 2-0.

Kasey Snowberger walked in Feathers.

Padula also landed base on another walk, scoring Detwiler.

Batting for the second time in the inning, Metzler ended the scoring with a single to left, making it 6-0.

Bellefonte got the balk hard early but right to the Dragon defense.

In the second, Rogers settled in, allowing just a run.

Bellefonte battled back in the third, scoring a run.

Port sent a sizzler down first baseline. She moved up to second when Prysbys sent a chopper to first base and it was booted by the Central first baseman.

With one out, Port advanced on a wild pitch and then scored on a fielders’ choice off the bat of Lily Gardner. Gardner picked up the RBI and the Red Raiders were on the scoreboard.

Emily Pugh came in in the third and allowed the Dragons two runs.

In the fourth, the Red Raiders cut the lead to 9-3, picking up two runs of their own.

Rogers blasted a long double to left centerfield.

She scored on a single by Pugh.

Pugh later scored on a Prysbys RBI single in the left centerfield gap.

However, the Dragons would warm up their bats in the sixth, highlighted by home runs by Alana Padula and Claycomb, ending the game at 13-3 at the end of six.

Bellefonte will be back in action Saturday in a double header.
