Central Mountain dominates Hollidaysburg in Mat action

MILL HALL – Back on top.

With their win Wednesday over Hollidaysburg, the Central Mountain Wrestling team has been once again crowned as BIg 7 champions in wrestling action.

The Wildcats started strong lead and ended with a convincing winner of a 51-15 contest against the Tigers on senior night.

“Before they went out we reminded them that last year we didn’t get a year on the board on the banner for a Big 7 title. This was the last hurdle for them to get that,” Central Mountain coach Biff Walizer said. “I thought the kids went out and fought hard even the ones that came up short. So it’s a good one to go into the post season with.”

Starting at 195-pounds, Central Mountain’s Tanner Riggle, who is currently ranked 25th in AAA, made quick work of Jesse Weir as he pinned him in the the first period at the :56 mark.

At 220, Nikolas Miller battled hard but fell to 13th ranked 220-pounder in AAA, Augustus Dellinger 9-3, making it 6-3.

That would be as close as the Tigers would get all evening.

Curtis Stover notched his first won via forfiet at 285.

Blink and you might have missed the 106-pound bout as Central Mountain’s Derek Keen, ranked 24th in AAA at 106, took down Xavier Adams 33 seconds into the contest, picking up the win via pin.

Holding onto a 18-3 lead.

Taylor Weaver, took control of his match against Colin Smilnak, picking up a tech fall by a score of 20-4 with only 21 seconds left in their match, upping things to 23-3.

The rout was on as 120-pounder Johnny Schreffler, who was raked 22nd in AAA, pinned Brian Paul at the 3:44 mark.

22nd Ranked 126-pounder, Dalton Bechdel kept the winning coming as he blanked Andrew Simpson, 9-0.

In a last second win, Central Mountain’s 132-pound matman Kayden Busey held off Garidan Bridenbaugh, 6-5 bumping up the Central Mountain lead to 39-3.

The Wildcats continued to rule the mats as 138-pounder Cody Coleman never trailed and kept Aaron Sleeth at bay winning 6-3.

145-pound Wildcat Lane Parker picked up another Central Mountain pin as he put Weston Barnes to his back at 29 seconds left in the first.

Hollidaysburg 152-pounder Campbell Walls eked out a 3-2 victory over a very tough performance by Alonzo Henry, cutting it to 45-6.

At 160, Caleb Porter notched an easy victory as he picked up a forfeit, upping the lead to 51-6.

Though the Tigers picked up the next two wins it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats cruised to a 51-15 victory.

Notes: Central Mountain honored it seniors Wednesday night. They were; Jacob Edwards, Alonzo Henry, Johnny Shreffler, Cody Coleman, Austin Confer, Benjamin Probert, Tanner Riggle, Dalton Bechdel , Kayden Busey and manager Taylor Zerby.
