Centre County swimmers have strong showing in D6 swimming meet

UNIVERSITY PARK – The legendary State College swim team continues to add to its legacy as it has another strong year on day one of the District 6 championships.

From its first relay event until its final relay event of the day, the Little Lions bookended a very strong morning.

The girls 200-yard medley, State College started off in fine fashion, placing first and check marked their way into states with a first place time of 1:48.08.

Minutes later, the boys did the same, posting a First with a time of 1:34.99.

In AA, the Penns Valley girls secures a state spot with a time of 1:54.99.

State College was back at in the girls AAA 200-yard freestyle as Colleen Adams advanced to the PIAAs with a top mark of 1:57.69.

Teammate John Brownstead placed a close second in the boys 200 free with a mark of 1:52.08.

Bellefonte added a swimmer to the state mix in the AA version of the 200 free as Zoe Cole took top honors with a finishing time of 1:56.56.

In the boys AA 200 free, St. Joseph’s Reece Bloom advances to the Big Show finishing with a 1:51.40 time.

State College also took the girls 200-yard IM as Madelyn Koehle finished with a top time of 2:09.67.

The Little Lions picked up the top finish in the boys even as Noah Witt blazed through the water for a time of 1:57.72.

Penns Valley’s Sophia Gerhart advances to state competition as she took the top spot in the Class AA 200-yard IM with a time of 2:24.63.

Gerhart also advanced to state competition in the girls 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.21.

The Little Lions dominated in the quicker events as well.

Abbey Whipple moved on in the 50-yard freestyle with a state qualifying time of 24.61.

On the boys’ side, Brownstead set a meet record with a finishing time of 20.07.

In the girls AA side, Bellefonte’s Caroline Helms topped the podium with a qualifying time of 27.35.

State College took the 100-yard butterfly Grace DeAngelo advances to states with a time of 58.14.

Wrapping the final events of the day, State College girls moved on in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.18.

Day two starts Saturday at 2pm back at the PSU Natatorium.
