Clinton County update for September 4th

Lock Haven, PA- Most sports have their Iron Man or Woman. That workhorse that gets things done. Clinton County Motor Speedway is no exception.

 

Jeff Weaver competed in three divisions of racing Friday August 31 at the fairgrounds oval. When action was thru, the Lock Haven resident won the 270 micro sprint feature event.

 

When Asked if he was tired Weaver was ready for more. “ I don’t think I’d slow down if I was 50” was the speedsters reply. Weaver won his 270 heat event and started on the pole. Weaver never looked back and went on to win the 15 lap main. It wasn’t a cake walk.

 

Multiple winner Ross Perchak applied pressure but came up short. Luke Krobath finished third with Denny Rinehimer fourth. Troy Whitesel was fifth. Sixth through tenth were Shaun Musser, Bobby Sanso, Skeetz Hockenbrock, Daniel Wertman and Timmy Bitner.

 

Weaver, Nick Whitesel and John Roberts won qualifiers. There were 22 cars on hand.

 

The Laurel Highlands Sprint Cars were on hand with 16 cars signed in for competition. Weaver completed the purchase of a sprint racer one night before and promptly brought if to the track. Kyle Ganoe and Weaver won heat races.

 

When the 305 sprint car feature began Ganoe immediately went to the lead from his second starting spot. Tyler Cochran dropped in second after starting sixth. The pair remained at the front despite withstanding two caution periods. The first came on the opening lap and forced Dale Schweikart and Colton Hover to the pit area. Hoover was out for the night. Schweikart returned and eventually finished 12th.

 

The race was red flagged on lap ten after Dakota Schweikart flipped in turn two. Drew Ritchey and Dale Schweikart were also involved in the mishap which forced all from action.

 

Ganoe continued to lead but Massachusetts driver Kyle Smith previously took over second place from Cochran and began to apply pressure by lap 12. Smith went to the front on lap 13 and went on to score the win. Ganoe settled for second with John Walp third. Tyler Cochran was fourth with Fred Arnold fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Weaver, Dave Guss Jr., Reed Thompson, Cowboy Jim Kennedy and Dakota Schweikart.

 

The 600 micro sprints brought 22 competitors to the oval. Jake Hummel returned to the winners circle after holding off Garrett Bard for the win. Jeff Weaver finished third with Josh Beamer fourth. Travis Keiser was fifth. The remainder of the top ten included Dereck Swartz, Chad Thompson, Skeetz Hockenbrock, AJ Bast and Bobby Sanso.

 

Thompson, Bard and Weaver won heat races.

 

JR Toner returned to the winners circle during limited late model competition. Toner battled with early race leader Joe Lusk finally taking the lead on lap five. Lusk remained in second spot until Andrew Yoder moved by during lap lap eleven. Yoder tried everything possible to run down Toner as the track began to take rubber and a small usable cushion developed in the turns. With Yoder and others riding the cushion, Toner stayed straight and went on to win by 1.939 seconds over Yoder. Matt Cochran was third with Mike Smith fourth. Jim Yoder finished fifth. The remainder of the top ten included Lusk, Kevin Probst, Nick Loffredo, George Dixon, and Gary Mellott. Heat races were won by Toner and Andrew Yoder.

 

The front wheel drive four cylinder stock cars were the night cap division with nine cars pit side. After a wild wooly event which saw two cars in the pit area after a number of rough driving exchanges Sam Creveling withstood all obstacles and recorded the win. Adam Campbell finished second followed by Tony Hubler, Larry Beachel, Tim Raup, John Bower, Lee Zook, Tim Campbell, and Eric Luzier. Creveling also won the heat race.

 

Action resumes Friday September 7 when the limited late models are joined by the Laurel Highland Sprint Series, pro Stocks and 270 micro sprints. Gates open at 5 pm with racing at 7:30.
