East Juniata soccer grinds out 2-1 victory over Lewisburg

East Juniata remains undefeated in girls soccer action Wednesday as they held onto a 2-1 win over Lewisburg.

“Unfortunately we’re fighting some illness across the team but the girls got the job done tonight. The first 25 minutes was really good for us, but then we started to fall off after lewisburg scored. We are hard to defend when we move the ball around but we just aren’t confident enough yet to do it for 80 minutes,” said East Juniata Coach Valeria Dressler said. “Too many give aways and errant passes. They know it wasn’t pretty but sometimes you just have to grind it out, and that’s what they did.”

Lewisburg opened the game scoring when Marissa Coudriet hit a goal off an assist by Thea Neimond at 4:24.

East Juniata tied the game when Kierstyn Fogle, who was assisted by Leah Sankey, smacked a goal at 23:30.

Fogle posted the unassisted game winner at 43:45.

East Juniata held the advantage on shots on goal by a 6-1 margin while East Juniata goalie Brianna Henry didn’t record a save and held a 1-0 edge in corner shots.

Overall record for the Tigers are 5-0-0 and a TVL record of 2-0.

Next game- Monday- September 16, 2019- against Line Mountain.
