History made at St. Joseph Academy

The Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy girls made history in becoming state champions as a non-team qualifier. Even though they finished outside of the auto-team qualifiers at districts, they qualified five individual runners which made them eligible for a team score. The Wolves took full advantage of the opportunity as they lead at the mile and never looked back. Kate Youngmark finished 10th to earn medal on the day and All-State recognition. She was followed by the tight pack of Kathleen Simdander (43rd), Brandi Carmack (46th), Myah Chappell (47th), and Camryn Eby (57th). The Wolves scored 93 points, 23 ahead of defending state champion and district 6 rival, Marion Center. The state championship was the third Class A XC championship in school history.
The Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy boys ran to twelfth place, their best finish in school history. Josh Hershbine (30th) and Carter Kauffman (35th) lead the way for the Wolves as they have done all season. Senior Isaac Hyman (92nd) closed out his career with his best finish at the state championship. Aidan Cross (144th), Jonah Clark (151st), Asa Reynolds (170th), and Josh Hyman (200th) closed out the scoring for the Wolves.
