Huskie Freshman team bring home title in Harrisburg tourney

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County Lady Husky Freshman team win Harrisburg Lady Cougar Freshman Tournament on December 28, 2013. The Huskies aggressive open court offense averaged 47 points per game while their strong defense gave up an average of 29 points in the first four games.

After defeating Central Dauphin East, Susquehanna Township, Red Lion and Harrisburg, the Lady Huskies entered the championship game against Central Dauphin. The Lady Huskies looked strong as they played their third game in a row Saturday. The final game against Central Dauphin was a battle until the end with Lady Huskies winning the championship with a final score of 45-41.

Coach Crystal Weaver said “I am so proud of this group of girls! One of our goals at the beginning of the season was to defend our championship at the Harrisburg Lady Cougar Freshman Tournament. We were able to do this by winning five games in two days. After playing two games against Red Lion and Harrisburg on Saturday, our legs were a little tired for the championship game against Central Dauphin. We found ourselves down most of the game, but the girls found the energy and hit some big shots and foul shots at the end for the win. This group of girls has a passion for basketball and winning! It certainly makes my job as a coach much easier”.
