Kenny Varner

Kenny is the Owner, Editor, sometimes photographer for Hometown Sports Scene Magazine. His magazine fills a void in Mifflin County Sports Coverage as he goes above and beyond to cover each and every sporting event that he can. He has been covering sports for over a decade and still loves it just as much as he did back then. His main focus now is to give coverage to the kids and his work shows in every edition that comes out.
Kenny started his path to sports writing in 1998, working as a part-time sports writer for the Lewistown Sentinel. Two years later he would find himself employed full-time at the County Observer, again writing a sports column. Another three years down the road, in 2003, Kenny became employeed full-time at the Lewistown Sentinel writing about sports. Then, in 2008, he departed from years of work with the Sentinel to launch his own Sports Mazagine and give much more coverage on local sports then ever could at the newspaper.
Over the years, Kenny has covered a gambit of athletic events in Pennsylvania. Exclusive interviews with Penn State WNBA players in 2006, coverage of the Little League World Series, Redskins training camp, the Philadelphia Sixers/Spurs game held at the Bryce Jordan Center, Big 33, Lezzer Lumber Football Classic’s, PSU women and men’s basketball as well as football, State College Spikes, Harrisburg Heat soccer team, Harrisburg Senators baseball, State Special Olympic Games and the list goes on.
The magazine has entered its second year of indepth coverage of Centre and Mifflin County and has just recently added Juniata and Huntingdon County to its coverage. Kenny can be heard on Merf Radio giving weekly updates as well (head over to merfradio.com for more information.) A quote from Kenny says everything that the magazine stands for, "I believe that with positive press, kids can grow up with a positive self-image that will follow them for the rest of their lives." and with that, he keeps on writing. Kudos to Kenny for hes dedication to sports and kids and may he have many more editions to go.
