MC 14s fall in opener to Altoona

MILROY – In its opening night match up against Altoona, things started well for Mifflin County but did not end well as the “Blue and White” fell 11-5.
In the first inning, Mifflin County got off to the early lead when Zach Williamson singled home the first run of the game, cracking a single on a 1-0 count.
But Altoona took the lead in the third for good as the visitors scored four in the inning to go up, 4-1.
Will McConnell singled on a 2-1 count to score two. Mifflin County hurler Ansan Wagner induced Nate Sell to hit into a fielders choice that would score a run.
Altoona did more damage in the seventh inning as McConnell, Sell and Lucas Muffic all drove in runs during the inning. When the dust settled, Altoona added four more runs to the scoreboard.
Aidan Steinbugl took the hill for Altoona. He allowed only five runs off of four hits in five innings. He also struck out three.
Wagner was the pitcher of record on the night for the 14-year old team. He went four innings, allowing 10 hits and five runs while striking out two.
Darion Molek and Williamson both entered the game via the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning, respectively.
Williamson led Mifflin County at the plate with two hits on two at bats.
Altoona were led by McConnell, Steinbugl, Matt Moyer, Muffic and Sell who all multiple hits in the contest.
