MC 15s keep dream alive; tops Valley

The dream lives on.

After falling to West End Saturday evening, the Mifflin County 15-year old team went 2-0 on Sunday to keep their hopes alive for a Mid-Atlantic Regional title and the hopes to return to Nationals.

In the second game of the evening, Mifflin County ran into a very tough Valley team who gave Mifflin County a run for their money before the “Blue and White” came out victorious 7-5.

But it was a nail biter to the very end as Valley left the tying run on base as the game ended.

It was pitching by committee as Mifflin County pitched Cole Schlegel, Cole Knable, Conner Cherry and Brian Yetter to keep Valley at bay.

Ethan Eichhorn was the lone multiple hitter on the night as he went 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Valley’s Ryan Worden led his offense posting a 3-for-3 evening posting an RBI and scored a run.

After two and a half scoreless innings, Valley got on the scoreboard first, scoring three.

Carmen Chirico hustled out a dropped third strike and reached base safely. He stole second.

Mason Sands walked and Wordon blasted an RBI single, making it 1-0.

Aiden Shea roped a single into left that allowed Sands and Worden to score upping it to 3-0.

Mifflin County bounced back in the top of the fourth inning, tying things at three.

Casey Conner started things off with a walk. As did teammate Brycen Hassinger.

With two out, Bryce Dobson brought Conner in with a single back up the middle.

Cole Schlegel kept the inning going with yet another walk.

Colby Bodtorf’s double brought in scored Hassinger and Dobson, knotting things at three.

Mifflin County kept the runs coming in the fifth as it exploded for four more runs, taking the momentum of the game.

Eichhorn started the game with a single right.

Conner and Hassinger both walked for the second time in the game, loading the bases.

Knable brought in Eichhorn with a RBI walk. Both Conner and Hassinger later scored and then Dobson blasted a sacrifice fly that would score Knable, upping the lead to 7-3.

However, Valley would not go down without a fight as it battled back to score a run in the sixth and one in the seventh, ending the contest to 7-5.

Mifflin County will be back in action Monday morning at 9:00 as they will play Fishkill, who lost to West End earlier in the night.
