LEWISTOWN – To be the best, you have to compete against the best.

The Mifflin County track and field team did just that Tuesday afternoon as they went up against a very deep and talented Chambersburg team.

In the end, the Huskies competed tough but fell in both boys and girls action.

The boys fell 100-50 while the girls dropped a 89-61 contest.

Despite the loss, Mifflin County co-head coach Scot Sechler was very proud of how his group competed against the highly talented Mid-Penn foe.

“I thought our kids performed very well today. Chambersburg has a phenomenal team. They are very deep and talented across the board,” said Sechler. “But our kids stayed in there and fought for every single point. I thought we had some pretty good performances.”

On the girls’ side, Kiana Sechler picked up a first place nod in the long jump with a leap of 16’3”. Teammate Taylor Ciccolini was second with a jump of 15’.

Sechler also took home top honors in the triple with a leap of 35’4”. Bryan Kanagy followed with a second-place jump of 30’9”.

Taylor Ciccolini took first in the pole vault with a top jump of 10’. Mifflin County captures second as well with a 8’ leap by Katie Kline.

Morgan Robinette took the 800-meter run by storm picking up a first place time of 2:34.38 while teammate Kylee Cubbison finished third with a 2:39.34.

Cubbison also broke a Mifflin County freshman record in the 1600-meter run with a second place time of 5:33.29.

Skylar Ciccolini once again dominated the javelin with a throw of 130’7” while her sister Taylor places second with a throw of 115’1”.

“I thought it was a great effort by our girls. Chambersburg is probably one of the top teams in the conference right now. They’re stacked and their depth is pretty hard to crack as far as getting points up and down the line up,” said Mifflin County co-head Coach Scott Gantz. “So for us to get 89, I was pleased.  I think our jumpers kept us in the meet today. Kiana Sechler had a big meet today. She went 35’4” in the triple which is nice.”

The boys were led by the veteran leadership of their seniors.

Chayce Macknair took the top spots in the 1600 run with a top time 4:30.90, as a member of the 4×800 meter relay with a team time of 8:11.12 and in the 800-run with a top speed of 1:59.72.

Ethan Andrews brought home a first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.81.

Seth Phillips, who was also a part of the winning 4×800 relay team took top honors in the 400-meter dash with a time of :52.94.

Logan Renninger placed second in the shot with discus with a toss of 123’ 4” he also placed second in the shot put with a 43’ 3 1/2 heave.

“Logan Renninger, in The shot put, went 43’ 3 1/2” which is really good for him,” said Sechler. “Chayce  Macknair again had a very big meet. He was part of that 4×800 winning relay. He won the 800 and came back and won the mile so he had a pretty big meet and he also had some nice splits in the relay.”

Mifflin County will be back in action Friday as it travels to compete in the Mt. Lion Invitational in Altoona.
