Mifflin County makes Home debut; falls in close match with Bellefonte LAX

REEDSVILLE – History was made Saturday as the Mifflin County Club lacrosse team made its home debut against Bellefonte.
Early on, Bellefonte took an early advantage. But it wouldn’t be an easy day for the Red Raiders as they had to take everything they had to defeat a very tough Mifflin County team and even “Mother Nature” herself.
Taking a 10-7 victory into the final stanza, Mother Nature unloaded her nastiness as rain and lightning and thunder overtook the Reedsville area. But with the game called because of the weather, the Red Raiders came out victorious 10-7.
Bellefonte scores First when
Caleb Putnam took the shot at 9:01, upping it to 1-0.
Mifflin County got a strong effort from goalie Alex Wert despite the Red Raiders putting an early in press on the Mifflin County goal Area.
Putnam was at it again just minutes later hitting his second shot left handed at 7:35, making it 2-0.
Bellefonte’s defense was tough early on, keeping MC to only one shot in first 10 minutes.
Mifflin County’s Mitchell Stauffer cuts it to 2-1 on a goal with 6:13 left in first.
Back came Bellefonte as Riley Hackney cut and juked his way to a third Bellefonte goal, upping it 3-1 with 5:41 still showing on the clock in the opening period.
Despite Mifflin County’s defense tightening, Bellefonte’s John Nastase was able to sneak one in at the end of the opening period to increase his team’s lead to 4-1.
Things changed quickly in the second period.
Starting the Second quarter, Stauffer cut the Red Raiders lead to 4-2 as he tickled the twine, posting a goal at the 11:07 mark.
Wert continued to make numerous clutch saves.
Mifflin County brought it to within one thanks to a long shot by Rylan Bohn, cutting to 4-3, 7:51.
Bellefonte went on a 3-0 run thanks to goals from Branden Pacella, Reese Kelly and Demetri Butts, increasing the Red Raider lead to 7-3.
Trevor Mauck, the Bellefonte goalie, was just as tough in the crease as his Mifflin County counterpart.
Matt Fultz scooted a shot across the ground past the MC goalie, upping it to 8-3.
With five seconds left in the half, Gabe Peachey’s goal came, closing the deficit to 8-4.
Halftime
4 Garret Rhoades had Mifflin County strike again, with a goal at 10:05, making it 8-5.
Nastase brought his team back even closer just minutes later. MC was back in the game at 9:39,8-6.
But for like most of the night, the Red Raiders had an answer everything. Bellefonte’s Smith upped the Red Raider lead back to three at 9-6 with 9:11 left in the third.
Bellefonte scores their last goal up at 10-6 at the 8:45 mark.
Then the skies opened up and the rain showers came .
Gabe Peachey gave the Huskies it’s next to last goal at the 6:15 mark, making it 10-6.
At thecEnd of third, Bellefonte still held the advantage, 10-6.
Early in the final stanza, the Huskies added one last goal before the bad weather rolled in.
Despite falling to the Red Raiders, the Mifflin team gave the game ball Wert. As the Mifflin County goalie had some very tough saves in its Home debut.
