By Kenny Varner

LEWISTOWN – It was a Senior night delight for the Mifflin County Huskies field hockey team as they got hat tricks from Baylee Lepley and Halle Kerstetter en route to the 9-1 victory over East Juniata Monday night at Mifflin County High School.

“I thought they played well. I thought they started out a little slow. We started out sluggish and then we decided to come out and work together. There wasn’t a lot of talking at first,” Mifflin County coach Courtney Kanagy said. “They started to communicate and once they did that they started to get things going and then they started to just have fun. That’s the most important thing is having fun. Then things fell in line for us.”

It didn’t take long for the Huskies to get on the scoreboard when Keni Kahley scored off a corner off an assist by Lepley at 24:43.

East Juniata ties it up minutes later when Karli Owens plastered a goal at the  19:30 mark.

Mifflin County picked up a total of 20 corners in the first half as the Lady Huskies pinned the Tigers down in their own back third.

Kerstetter picked up her first goal of the game at 15:57 . Kerstetter scored off a corner as well.

Mifflin County kept its blitz of the East Juniata back line as?Kerstetter’s goal at 11:22 was assisted by Lepley, upping it to 3-1.

Rounding out the first half goals was Mifflin County’s Jordi Attic with 6:48 left on an assist by Lepley.

“The girls played a great first half tonight.  They really stuck with Mifflin County and pressured them to make quick decisions.  The girls stuck with it and were able to score and tie up the game after Mifflin County struck first,” East Juniata Coach Harley Straub said. “Junior Kyli Dowling set up the first goal about mid field, and freshman Karah Goss helped it into the circle while junior Karli Owens finished the drive for the score.”

In the second half, the goals just kept coming.

Kerstetter led off the Mifflin County scoring by blasting a goal past Emily Carolus at 29:17.

Less than a minute later Lepley scored once again at the 28:20 mark thanks to an assist by Kerstetter.

Kortlin Yetter picked up her first goal with 16:55 left in contest.

Lepley notched her hat trick at the 12:44 mark as she was assisted by Keni Kahley.

Sierra curry rounded out the scoring blasting a breakaway goal at 9:31  en route to the victory.

“Juniors Rylee Shearer and Lacey Swab played a big role in keeping Mifflin County from having more goals than they did.  Freshman Kyla Swartz stepped up and made some big stops and fed the ball to our offense.  Freshman Emily Carolus has been in the goal for the past several games, and tonight she really showed she is becoming more comfortable,” said Straub. “Carolus was more aggressive and made many great saves.  Carolus is doing a great job in the goal and looks to continue helping the team in big ways.  The girls played well tonight and I hope the intensity and tough play continues when we take on Muncy on Wednesday.”

Mifflin County travels for their final game to Carlisle on Wednesday.
