Mount Union to play for District 6 Class AAAA championship

The Mount Union baseball team inked its way to a District 6 Class AAAA berth Thursday night as it took care of Tyrone in a 8-2 contest.

Leading the way on the mound was Seth Smith who finished with a complete game, 2-run, 7-hit night at the mound as he added in a strike out and two walks en route to the victory.

Dylan Gearhart shines at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2RBIs and two runs. Teammate Quinton Posey also posted a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI and a run.

Kobe Hand and Ethan Carbaugh both posted a 2-hit night in the teams13-hit performance.

Tyrone opened the scoring with a run in the first.

But then Smith settled in and his defense worked strong behind him.

Mount Union battled back to take the momentum in the third as it posted a 5-run third inning, putting the pressure on the Eagles.

In the fourth, the Trojans were back at it pounding out two more runs to secure a 7-2 advantage.

Though they added a run in the sixth, the lead would be more than enough for Mount Union as they enter a familiar place, a D6 title game. The game will be in Altoona on May 28th.
