Penns Valley boys survives tough contest with PO

Penns Valley opened its week on the right foot as it defeated Philipsburg-Osceola 2-1.

“Penns Valley really needed a win after coming off 2 losses last week. We started off in the first half with a very good control game and moved the ball well through the P-O defense – but had some trouble finishing. In the 10th minute, Aidan Culver took a nice pass from Michael Johnson, made a great cut and run move on the defender and buried the ball in net on a very nice breakaway shot from the right side,” said Penns Valley coach Ken Gore. “At half time we talked about not letting our opponent stay in the game and that they were only 1 good shot from being back in it. Well, in the 52 minute they finished that good shot and put PV on our heels. Our response was weak for about 15 minutes as P-O continued to attack hard – but my guys finally decided to respond with some intensity and began to really bring the counter-attack later in the half. It paid off in the 71st minute as Connor Martz hit a high blistering shot off the keeper’s hands from 20 yards and Zach Heckman was right in front to finish the rebound for the game winning goal.”
