School Board approves Bellefonte LAX and GLAX to become official sport

As the spring lacrosse season comes to an end the Bellefonte Girls and Boys Lacrosse Teams reach a new milestone, an achievement quietly earned off the field but just as important and meaningful as winning the District or State Championship, they are now a fully recognized school sponsored Varsity Sport. On Tuesday, May 22 the Bellefonte Area School Board voted to move the entire Girls and Boys Lacrosse Programs from a Club status to a fully sponsored school sport for girls and boys at the high school and middle school levels. The decision by the school board was not easy, and as stewards of taxpayer dollars they watched the program grow within the community and across the state for more than 10 years before making their final decision. Next year, Bellefonte’s newest Varsity sport will play on the artificial turf of a brand new stadium built at the High School to replace the existing “Rogers Stadium”. Construction of the new stadium began in April and is expected to be complete enough to play football this fall and includes turf markings for both Boys and Girls Lacrosse PIAA competitions. Join the Bellefonte community this fall in their new stadium and attend Boys and Girls Lacrosse Games on the new turf beginning March 2019.
