St.Joes boys’ win 11th straight

Saint Joseph’s got off to a shaky start defensively on Saturday as Southern Huntingdon shot lights out from the three point line.  The Rockets made 13 threes on the day.  However, Saint Joseph’s got a boost from Brendan Scanlon (23 points) and Zane Thornburg (15 points) as each player netted 4 threes of their own.  It was an evenly played game 34-32 heading to halftime.

In the second half, the Wolves used an early 8-0 run to grab a 6 point lead. But the Rockets battled back and were able to put together a 10-0 run of their own.  Jack Mangene scored 7 of his 12 points in the 3rd quarter and Cameron Khoza got into the scoring act as well hitting his first three pointer of the afternoon.  Scanlon and Thornburg also added threes to help push the Saint Joe’s lead to 54-50 after three.

The Wolves were able to control the game in the 4th quarter and held on for a hard earned 76-70 victory on the road.  Leading scorers on the afternoon were: Brendan Scanlon 23, Zane Thornburg 15, Cameron Khoza 14 and Jack Mangene 12.

The Wolves have now won 11 straight games dating back to a December loss at Trinity and are down to three games remaining on the regular season schedule.  The Wolves record stands at 15-4 and they are next in action today at Philipsburg.
