St. Joseph holds on for win over PO

It was a fast paced first half on Senior Night at Philipsburg Monday evening.  The Wolves and Mounties were locked in a close battle at 28-24 going into the half.  The Wolves made an early run in the third quarter but PO’s Ryan Whitehead kept the Mounties close maneuvering around the basket and scoring all 14 of his points in the second half.

Philipsburg gained the lead in the 4th quarter as the game went back and forth.  The Wolves connected on three straight 3-point field goals, the first two from Brendan Scanlon (15 points) and the third from Zane Thornburg who gave the Wolves a 55-52 lead.  Scanlon stole the ball on the next possession and Cameron Khoza finished a layup off an in bound to extend the lead to five.

The Wolves held on to claim a 59-52 victory.  SJ had a balanced attack as Brendan Scanlon led all scorers with 15 points, Jack Mangene chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds,  Cameron Khoza added 11 and Zane Thornburg scored 10 including the go ahead three.

The Wolves have now won 12 straight and will go for number 13 at Williamsburg Wednesday evening.   SJCA’s record stands at 16-4.
