By Kenny Varner

WINGATE – They are in the win column.

It was a dark and rainy night. But, the show must go on and so the Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team went up against visiting Tyrone in a Mountain League battle.

Early on, Bald Eagle led the way as it’s defense was stingy and its offense was very aggressive leading to a dominant first half.

Playing once again in the rainy weather seemed to have little or no effect on the Lady Bald Eagles as they had an impressive first half.

Both teams got off to a slow start as they were trying to eye-up the others formations on the field and tried to match up accordingly.

Bald Eagle sent the first shot on goal at the 35-minute mark but it’s shot went wide.

Tyrone tried to take the momentum on its next touch but was shut down immediately by the Bald Eagles’ backline. Tyrone could not find a hole in the Bald Eagle defense and got turned away time and time again, empty handed.

With both defenses reacting quickly , there were no breakaway attempts by either team in the first.

After moving the ball downfield and putting the pressure on the Tyrone back-third, the Eagles struck on a blast by Addison Proctor with 24:55, making it 1-0.

After taking the next possession, Tyrone was stopped in check as the defense got the ball back to Bald Eagle.

Neither team would be able to get one last the others goal the rest of the half as the Eagles led going into the intermission, 1-0.

“I think they really felt it after the first half. They looked good. They controlled the ball and put a lot of pressure on their defense,” Bald Eagle coach Jared Moore said. “I knew they would crack through sooner or later. We play a very solid possession game. I. Thought they did that the entire game. I thought they looked really good and then the goals came.”

The Bald Eagles led in shots by a 12-1 margin and they also led in corner opportunities 3-1. Tyrone goalie had six first half saves while Bald Eagle goal keeper Rachel Veneziano was untested.

In the second half, the Eagles offense dominated and seemed to be a step quicker to the ball. The Lady Bald Eagles presses the ball deep into the back-third producing seven shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

After dominating on offense for most of the period, Bald Eagle scores yet again at the 18:17 mark. Allison Cowan was on target, placing the ball past the Tyrone goal keeper, upping the score to 2-0.

Bald Eagle did not lose its intensity as it continued to press the Golden Eagle back in their half of the field.

Things continued to roll as they were able to post another goal as Zoey McHenry posted the final goal of the game as the Lady Bald Eagle blasted it Home, ending it at 3-0.
