They did it! MC15s are heading West

And they’re off…again!

After having to battle through a day of comebacks, extra innings and rain delays, the Mifflin County 15-year olds are once again packing their bags and heading to the Babe Ruth World Series in Washington State.

In its title game against West End, “the Boys in Blue” also had to battle Mother Nature but not before taking a 4-1 advantage into the rain delay.

When play resumed there were no let down offensively or defensively as they took the championship game 14-5 in front of all their home fans.

It will be the third time in local Babe Ruth History reached the World Series.

Ironically, it was this group at age 13 that captures the title and became the front runners in the whole nation.

Conner Cherry Picked up the win while teammate Bryce Dobson finished it out. Cherry finished with seven strike outs.

In the first inning, the West Enders got the run on the scoreboard.

Dallas Greiss started off with a single and moved up to second and then third on consecutive hit by pitches.

He then scored on a walk by Eli Selinger, giving them the 1-0 advantage.

In the top of the second, Mifflin County exploded for four runs and then when play resumed hours later a fifth run to take charge 5-1.

With one out, Brycen Hassinger walked. Dobson followed and Cherry followed suit as they also walked to load the bases.

Cole Schlegel singled in two, taking the lead at 2-1.

Cherry and Schlegel both scored when Colby Bodtorf doubled and an error by West End brought Mifflin County to a comfortable 4-1 advantage.

Then the rains came and the game was restarted later in the evening and Mifflin County did not miss a beat.

Bodtorf took advantage of a wild pitch to add the fifth run of the inning.

But all good teams have fight left in them and West End proved it wasn’t going to go away easily as the brought to score to 5-4 as the game went into the fourth inning.

Mifflin County added a run to its lead in the top of the inning.

Schlegel walked and moved up to second on a Bodtorf single to right.

He later scored when Brian Yetter blasted a double that scored Schlegel.

Mifflin County’s defense held in the bottom of the inning.

In the fifth, the Mifflin County bats got sizzling again as it plated four more runs.

With a 10-4 advantage going into the seventh, Mifflin County wasn’t done yet as it was able to add four more, taking a 10-run lead into the bottom of the seventh.

West End was only able to muster one more run and when the final pop out landed in Dobson, these group of athletes once again made local history. 

But there Story is not quite over yet!
