By Kenny Varner

LOCK HAVEN – In just a time span of just under two minutes, the Central Mountain boys’ soccer team took a scoreless tie and turned it into a win Saturday over a tough Bellefonte Red Raider team.

The Wildcats picked up the 3-0 shut out over the Red Raiders.

Jensen Brown turned out to be involved in all three, finishing up with a goal and two assists.

Despite the loss, Bellefonte goalie Zach Spearly picked up a game-high 15 saves while Central Mountain goalkeeper Cy Probst captured seven saves.

“Two come away with two wins out of three games this week is a good thing. I was back and forth and we had our chances and then they would comeback but for us to get that score was Big for us,” Central Mountain Coach Billy Hooks said. “We found our back four and they’re playing well. We found the guys and have them in the spots they need to be. Cy, as a first year goalie, is phenomenal. He is always working hard and trying to get better. He’s doing a great job.”

After a scoreless first half, the intensity started to grow in the game as both defenses took the tempo of the game.

In the first, the Wildcats outshot Bellefonte 14-4. They also led in corners 3-2. Bellefonte goalkeeper Spearing had nine saves in the period while Probst only needed three.

Both teams came out battling from the second half buzzer and Bellefonte almost took the first lead.

Joey Maggs hit a backward kick in front of the goal fly over his head and hit the cross bar, keeping the game scoreless.

As time began to click off the clock, the Wildcats got the ball just over 10 minutes into the period.

With the momentum, Jensen Brown broke the seal off the scoreboard as he slid an unassisted goal into the opponents goal, making it 1-0.

Seconds later, Brown stole the possession from Bellefonte and hit Brayden Brungard in transition as he tickled the twine, upped it to 2-0 with 27:01.

Less than two minutes later, Central Mountains was back on the scoreboard as Tommy Pringle slid the third one across to ice the victory.

“We did ok. Our goal today, nothing against Central Mountain, we just wanted to come out and not get anybody injured. We are at the top of the league right now and we have to games this week,” Bellefonte coach Scott Martz said. “I thought they played well. Central Mountain moved the ball well. They are very quick. With the exception of that one spurt there they did ok.

Central Mountain is back in action Tuesday at Hollidaysburg while Bellefonte goes up against Philipsburg on Monday.
