Bald Eagle girls dominate Cambria Heights,9-1 in D6 opener

Peaking at the right time!

The Bald Eagle girls soccer team picked immediately up where they did in the regular season as they dominated eight seed Cambria Heights Thursday 9-1 in a mercy rule shortened game.

With the win, the undefeated Eagles will battle Juniata in the second round.

Fallen McHenry had the hat trick in the win to lead the Lady Eagles.

Defensively, Bald Eagle dominated, allowing only two shots on goal the entire night while blasting 33 shots on goal.

Bald Eagle goalie Rachel Veneziano was tested just twice with the Highlanders sinking just one goal.

This was Bald Eagles game from the very start as they came in ready and pumped up for the contest.

Bald Eagle started to pound the ball deep into Cambria Heights’ territory and had numerous chances as they weren’t able to get anything through early on.

“I thought they did a great job tonight. They really do well with possession and they work the ball down the field as a unit. It’s kind of been our game all year,” said Bald Eagle coach Jared Moore said. “Definitely all our hard work has paid off.”

But after numerous tries the Eagles posted its first goal at 12:59 on McHenry’s first goal.

But back came Cambria Heights as they tied things less than two minutes later.

But the offensive pressure started to crack the defensive protection of the Highlanders.

The Eagles went back ahead on a goal by Addison Proctor at 10:49.

That would prove to be the game winner and the goal that would start to get the Bald Eagle offense firing on all cylinders.

A little over two minutes later, the Lady Eagles were back on the board. McHenry scored her second at 8:51.

The fourth time Grace Wagner picked up a rebound from a McHenry shot and tickled the twine, upping it to 4-1.

For McHenry’s hat trick she hit a blast that deflected off a defender and into the goal, advancing the lead to 5-1.

With time running out in the first, Bald Eagle ended the scoring on a Sarah Holler goal, sending her team into the intermission with increased confidence, leading 6-1.

In the second half, Bald Eagle added to its lead with goals by Proctor, Holler and Mara Hockenberry en route to the victory.

Bald Eagle will looks to keep its undefeated streak alive as it battles Juniata Monday in the second round.
