Bald Eagle remains undefeated; sweeps Bellefonte

WINGATE – Tuesday, the Bald Eagle  girls volleyball team has been revving for the post season while their opponent, rival Bellefonte has been improving game by game, what a night to have a rivalry game.

In the end, the Eagles remained undefeated as they picked up a 3-0 victory over the Red Raiders.

This time around, Bellefonte showed their improvement through the year as they only fell 25-13, 25-8 and 25-16.

In the first game, the two stood toe-to-toe for the early part of the game.

Bellefonte’s Shaelah Pepperman picked up the game’s first point.  But from there, the two went back and forth on side outs.

With the game tied at six, the Eagles’ started to pull away on the serve by Brynne Bisel. Bisel rolled off three consecutive service points.

The Lady Raiders kept it close, keeping it within three points at 11-8.

Bald Eagle got some help on the service line as Madison Rockey and teammate Grace Hugar put their team ahead 15-9.

After a service point and side out by Bellefonte, cutting the score to 15-11, Lexi Skripek put the game on ice, posting eight service points to give the home team a 24-11 advantage.

Bellefonte came back with two before turning it over on a side-out and giving Bald Eagle the victory.

The Eagles dominated from beginning to end in the second game.

With Hugar taking the service line, the Lady Eagles has it’s A-Game going scoring the first four points of the game.

After a Bellefonte side out, Bald Eagle scores another for points in a row, this time by Skrepik, upping the lead to 9-1.

The Lady Raiders attempted a comeback and was able to cut into the Bald Eagle lead at 13-6.

Bellefonte cut it to 15-8 before the Eagles offense continued its sizzle.

Setter Rockey proved to be a force to be reckoned with not only in the front line but by on the service line as well. Rockey rolled out nine service points en route to the 25-8 victory.

Holding the 2-0 advantage, the Eagles maintained its confidence even as their coach Larry Campbell mixed in some of his younger players in the mix. 

But the Lady Raiders weren’t going to go away without a fight as Bellefonte got strong service points from Phoebe Rowland and McKenna Hendrix as they pushed the Eagles to a 25-16 contest.
