Bald Eagles girls soccer notches PIAA win over Karns City

They’re back!!

After falling to a tough Bedford team in the District 6 Class AA Championship game Saturday, the Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team kept its season going with a 2-1 win in the opening round of PIAA State Playoff action against Karns City.

It would be a game that Bald Eagle would carry a 2-0 for most of the game before giving up a late goal.

“The girls had a rough game Saturday, but really bounced back tonight. They looked sharp and they controlled possession. They got back to what works for us. Rachel had an outstanding game in the goal for us tonight. She was everywhere,” said Bald Eagle Coach Jared Moore. “ The ball was really skipping on the turf tonight and her judgement was exceptional. I thought we played well as a unit tonight and worked hard for our goals. A lot of the chances we had came out of the midfield. I thought Zoey, Emily and Sarah did a great job feeding the ball to the forwards and wings and making space to play into. Sarah Holler was outstanding. She was definitely a dominating factor in the game, disrupting the opponents attack and forcing bad passes.”

Bald Eagle outshot Karns City 11-10 as Eagles’ goalie Rachel Veneziano captured nine as well as Karns City keeper Rachel McMillen.

Falen McHenry got a nice chip shot on a throw in from Georgia Cingle at 25;30 for the games’ only first half goal

In the second half, Emily Shiels off a nice flick from Zoey McHenry, ran through it and finished it into the side net at 67:15 mark. Karns City goal came off a BEA Own Goal at 78:44.

With the win Bald Eagle ups it’s record to 20-1-1.

Next Game: Saturday vs North Catholic, PIAA Quarterfinals.
