SLIPPERY ROCK – Meghan Griffin scored the game-winning goal seven minutes into overtime to lift Mansfield past Slippery Rock 2-1 in a key conference road win Tuesday afternoon.

The Mountaineers improve to 2-1 in PSAC play and are currently tied for fourth in the conference standings.

Mansfield struck first when Olivia Bell notched her first career goal in the 24th minute of the first half on a Gabby Hieber pass. The score made Bell the 10th different Mountie to register a goal this season. It was Hieber first assist of the year.

Slippery Rock held a 9-5 shots and 6-2 penalty corners advantage in the first half, but keeper Brittany Ryan and the Mountie defense did not allow a goal.

The Rock evened the score in the 58th minute when SRU leading scorer Kayla Ulrich recorded her fifth goal of the year. Madison Krajewski was credited with the assist.

The Mountaineers increased the offensive pressure in the second half, recording seven corners to Slippery Rock’s three, but the Rock still held a 5-4 shots advantage. Neither side was able to score the go-ahead goal in regulation.

In overtime, it was more than five minutes until either side got a shot off with Dana Evans putting an attempt on frame that was saved by the SRU keeper. Just over a minute later, Mansfield drew a penalty corner that led to Griffin scoring the game-winner. The goal was Griffin’s third of the year.

Mansfield held a 10-9 advantage in corners with the Rock holding a 14-11 edge in total shots.

Ryan made five saves in goal to earn her sixth win of the year.

It marks the second overtime victory of the year for the Mounties following a 2-1 win at IUP on Sept. 12.

The Mountaineers travel to Seton Hill on Saturday.
