On Thursday, November 21, 2019, the Bellefonte HS Athletic Department held its fall 2019 Signing Celebration for two outstanding senior student-athletes.  CJ Funk and Mallorie Smith will graduate in the spring and continue both their academic and athletic careers on the college level.  While looking forward to their future and beginning their next chapter, let’s not forget what these two have accomplished while here at Bellefonte.  Both have left the school breaking many records leaving a legacy.

CJ Funk, will play baseball for the University of Pittsburgh. While he still has a season of baseball to go, CJ was a twotime Mountain League All-star Outfielder, led the State in 2018 in homeruns, a Team Pennsylvania representative, and a 2018 and 2019 District Champion.

CJ’s impact was just not on the diamond but also on the grid iron.  CJ has rewritten the record books.  CJ currently has the following records:

Career rushing yards (3,544)
Most yards per carry average (11 yds)
Most touchdown runs over 80 plus yards in a career (2)
Career all purpose yards (4452)
Career touchdowns (51)

CJ was also named two-time Mountain League All-star 1stteam running back and 1st team linebacker.

Mallorie Smith will play soccer at The Pennsylvania University – Altoona campus.  A three-sport athlete, Mallorie also shows her athletic talent on the basketball court and the softball diamond.  Playing soccer for 14 years, Mallorie is a four-year starter and letter winner for the Lady Raiders.  She, too, has rewritten the record books and leaves behind her name holding the following:

Career goals (116)
Assist record (32)
Season goals (33)
Season Assist (13)
Goals in a game (6)
Hattricks (19)

She leaves as a two-time Mountain League MVP and two-time First Team All-star.

In her other sports, Mallorie has been a varsity starter for the past three years for the basketball and softball teams.  She is a three-time District Champion with the softball team, a second team all-State her sophomore year, a one-time second team and two-time Mountain League First team honoree.  She also gives of her time for the Raider Review, Yearbook, and the SADD club.

Both CJ and Mallorie not only are outstanding athletes but also put in the time in the classroom.   As scholar athletes, CJ and Mallorie are active members of the BAHS National Honor Society.

The crowd at the signing included coaches – past and present, parents, grandparents, friends, and teammates.  Both signee’s took time to thank everyone in attendance and those that could not be present for contributing to their success making them better athletes, scholars, and persons.  They both recognized that without their team, they would not have been able to make some of these record-breaking performances.

The athletic department including their coaches, BASD and BAHS Administration congratulate both CJ and Mallorie and wish them the best of luck with the rest of their senior year and upcoming sport seasons!  Pitt and PSU-Altoona are lucky to have you on their team but you will always be a Red Raider. ROLL ON!
