Central Mountain throttles Midd-West

By Kenny Varner
LOCK HAVEN – Saturday night, the Central Mountain boys basketball team came into their contest against Midd-West with both feet of the gas and refused to take their foot off the pedal until the final buzzer.
The Mustangs could not get out of the gate offensively, as it was only able to post 14 points the entire game.
When the dust settled and the game ended, the Wildcats picked up the easy 78-14 victory in front of the home crowd.
Jake Sketich led all scorers with 13 points.
He was just one of four players to finish in double digits.
Teammates Tyler Adair and Collin Jones both finished with 11-point efforts.
Rounding out the double-digit scoring for the Wildcats was Addison Thomas who had 10.
Overall, Issiah McCann seemed to be doing a little bit of everything as he finished with five points, six assists, three steals and 10 rebounds.
Central Mountain, after recovering from a loss earlier in the week to Montoursville, looked to make a strong statement and it was evident with a 24-point first quarter to start out the game.
Defensively, the Wildcats closed down the middle and was able to keep the Mustangs from pulling down many offensive boards.
On offense, Central Mountain played a very selfless game as they gave up numerous outside looks for better passes underneath and closer to the basket.
“It was good basketball. We knew we had to get back to moving the ball and spreading the ball around,” said Central Mountain coach Tyler Bardo. “It was a change from the Montoursville game.we weren’t happy with our ball movement there and we weren’t happy with the work away from the ball and that was one of the things we wanted to fix tonight and they responded.”
In the first quarter, McCann got the scoring started when hitting 1-of-2 from the free throw line.
After forcing the first turnover of the game, Central Mountain Collin Jones helped spark the Wildcats to 19-0 run before the the Mustangs would even get on the scoreboard.
In the scoring run, Central Mountain was led by a 7-point effort from Sketich.
But the momentum continued in Central Mountain’s favor outscoring Midd-West 5-2 the rest of the way in the period, 24-4.
Things continue to sizzle for Wildcats as the defense continued to keep the Mustangs at bay.
Its offense continued to shine as it posted 19 in the period while only allowing three points.
When the intermission got underway, Central Mountain continued to dominate 43-7.
Just minutes into the second half, Central Mountain put the game in a “mercy rule” status as it went ahead by 40 points.
It was a perfect performance for the Wildcats defense as they kept Midd-West scoreless en route to a 64-7 third quarter lead.
In the final quarter, the Mustangs were able to post seven points in the period but Central Mountain tallied 14 en route to 78-14 contest.
