Eagles soar over Bobcats

 

 

WINGATE – The Bald Eagle Area baseball team came pumped and ready for action tonight as it hosted its opening round of the District 6 Class AA tournament against Blairsville.

It took the Eagles just six innings to end the contest, posting a 10-run victory 12-2 in front of a large Bald Eagle fan base. Bald Eagle came into the contest sporting an overall record of 12-6 and a record of 11-3 in the Mountain Athletic Conference

Leading the charge was Colton Comly who went six innings on the mound , striking out five, six hits and two runs.

Ryan Dyke was a perfect 1-for-1 offensively, posting a double and a sacrifice fly that led to a 2-RBI afternoon.

Teammates Brian Green, Jason Jones and Nate Cleaver finished with a 2-for-2, 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 efforts, respectively.

After a close two innings, the Eagles blew the game open in the top of the third, plating five runs.

Green led off the third plastering a sizzling shot to the left field corner, finishing with a stand up double.

Dyke sent a double of his own up the middle, allowing Green to score on the play.

Nate Cleaver’s single to right center had enough speed on his hit to score Dyke, upping the Bald Eagle lead to 4-1.

Jordan Kublarcik, bounced into a fielders choice, sending Cleaver to the bench for the first out.

With one out, Ryan Guenot and Brandon Gettig followed with consecutive walks, loading the bases.

Alex Struble’s Hit by pitch and lead off hitter Bryce Green singled in Coblarchick and Ganno, upping the lead to 6-1.

Brian Green’s walk with bases loaded ended the BEA scoring in the inning, going into the fourth holding a 7-1 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Blairsville came back with its second run of the contest.

However, the Eagles continued to push the score closer and closer to the 10-run limit, picking up a run in the fourth and fifth and then finishing the game off with three in the sixth.

With the victory, the Eagles will be back in action at home Thursday at 4 p.m.
