Jersey Shore shuts out Central Mountain on Saturday matinee

LOCK HAVEN – It was a very defensive effort in the rivalry between Jersey Shore and Central Mountain.

But it would be the Bulldogs who would break the seal of the goal as it grounded out a 3-0 victory over the Wildcats.

Fill in Central Mountain goalie Maddison Briggs filled in for Hailey Swortwood and played a strong game, saving 11 as she kept her team in the game.

“I thought our passing was pretty good today, especially in the first half. We came out and talked about being aggressive. We wanted to make sure we got out to a good start. I thought this was the best starts that we had so far,” Jersey Shore coach Darrin Bischoff said. “I was very proud of them.”

Both teams got good starting performances from their defense as neither team were able to find an open area in the defense to get a clear shot off.

Both teams tried to find the right tempo and take the momentum over the other but couldn’t until the first half dropped under the 20-minute mark.

The Bulldogs started to push the ball down into the Wildcats backfield and were knocking on the door of the Wildcats goal Area.

At 17:23, Jersey Shore’s Taylor Fleming found an opening a blasted a shot past the Central Mountain goalie, making 1-0.

Carrying the lead, Jersey Shore would go back at the Central Mountain back-third. 

After plugging away for another couple minutes on clock, the Bulldogs were at it again.

Aubrey Sechrist added to its lead as posted an unassisted goal at 8:16.

Both defenses took over for the final eight minutes as both team’s went into the intermission with the Bulldogs leading 2-0.

“Unfortunately, we are kind of repeat this season where our halftime speeches are consistent with each other. If we learn how to first defend this season would be a lock for us,” said Central Mountain coach Cole Black. “We have four games left and honestly today we should have won.”

In the second, the Wildcats were able to produce more on offense but still found it hard to penetrate the defense and find that spot.

But the two got into a defensive stalemate for most of the half.

The Bulldogs added another goal Kate in the game to put the game on ice.

Madison Maihle roped an unassisted with 9:59 to put the game away at 3-0.
